Ben Horton Exhibition

Ben Horton 'Skylarking' - Black Sheep Manchester exhibition teaser blog thumbnail
Ben Horton name script Ben Horton is an American artist and is best known within the skateboarding world as the man behind $lave Skateboards. Horton's choice of medium tends to be paint or ink drawing on paper, though occasionally his work is applied to old magazines or sheet music rather than just a blank page.   Horton's art often provides commentary on contemporary life with a satirical and occasionally dark focus on the negative effects of modern technology. The human characters within his work are reminiscent of 1950s American advertising which could be considered to heighten the juxtaposition between what would be their somewhat initial idillic physical appearance and the surreal way Horton portrays them in his work. Conversely, Horton is also incredibly skilled in his presentation of animals where apes are a favourite, often presenting then in contrast to, or smarter than, his human characters. Other illustrations of more dangerous animals such as wolves simply portray their visceral nature whereas birds are also a recurring theme and, in contrast to his other works, are usually presented much more elegantly.   We are proud to announce that Black Sheep currently has a number of original pieces of artwork by Horton on display at our store. Below is little teaser of some of Horton's work currently hosted in the shop but we highly recommend coming into store and having a proper browse! The exhibition will be available to view during our whole operating hours:

Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs/Fri/Saturday: 10:30am - 6:30pm • Sunday: 11am - 5pm
