The Baker Skateboards and DC rider’s skating is in that sweet spot between positive chaos and ultimate control. Watching ‘Afterburner’ will energize and inspire you to grab your board, get out that door and go have some fun. Click play and enjoy.

Ryan Decenzo – Darkstar Part

Monday, April 24th, 2017

Ryan Decenzo has released a new part for Darkstar Skateboards via the Berrics website and it’s a jaw dropper. Despite pushing over the ”wrong” side of thirty, seven years in the pro game and his last part including that deep switch front three down Wallenberg, Ryan has somehow raised the bar to the next level. Pushing the boundaries throwing himself down handrails, gaps and stairs with little regard for his body, this isn’t just four minutes of straight up gnar though, expect some technical ledge combos, lengthy wallrides and switch polejams thrown in for good measure. The elder Decenzo brother really does bring home the (Canadian) bacon, click play below to witness this chomper of a section.

Black Sheep x Shirley Baker Limited Collaboration

Friday, April 21st, 2017

Shirley Baker was a hugely important street photographer who captured images of the people and places in Manchester and Salford during the 60’s,70’s and 80’s. Her work is now shown in galleries around the world as it marks the enormous changes we have seen in an historically short time. Today we think nothing of the vast array of images collected everyday and displayed on the net for everyone to see. It may seem obvious to some but It cannot be stressed enough just how few documentary images we have of the regular people of Manchester during these times. It is therefore important for us to celebrate the gift of these images that Shirley Baker has provided in her legacy.

I had first seen this image by chance in 2000 at the opening of the Lowry centre in Salford; I was immediately attracted to it because of its subject matter and composition. This and the other images stuck with me because I was a child that grew up on the streets of Salford and Manchester from 1970. I frequented similar streets whilst spending a lot of time skateboarding during the eighties and in effect playing on those streets in a similar way to the girls depicted in the image. The girls in the image have adapted their meagre surroundings for fun in exactly the same way skateboarders do today.

Fast forward to 2017 and sadly Shirley Baker is no longer with us but after a few too many years in my ideas folder I thought it worthwhile doing a little research and contacting Shirley’s daughter Nan. What has resulted is the Black Sheep Store has been given permission to produce an exclusively numbered 50 skateboard decks of this iconic image.
I am personally so stoked to get this graphic made a reality and honoured to celebrate a true Manchester creative “Shirley Baker”.

Harry.

If you’d like to get your hand on one of these limited edition decks then do so by hitting the link… Black Sheep x Shirley Baker Decks.

We have also given you the option to have each deck and cruiser set up as a complete skateboard and the premium complete includes Independent trucks, Spitfire wheels and Bones Reds bearings. Be sure to check those out too if you are an individual who would like to skate one rather than use the deck as a wall hanger.

Adidas Skateboarding – ‘On Your Marc’

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

Adidas Skateboarding keep the humor coming in the ‘On Your Marc’ video for Marc Johnson’s signature colourway of the ever popular Matchcourt Mid. The fresh looking light blue is the official colour of the University of North Carolina which is where Marc grew up and the subtle gold MJ branding really catches the eye. In the video we see MJ finding himself in weirder and weirder situations, riffling off some slapstick monologue towards a pair of his new shoes. Some people are loving the humor but others aren’t so keen. It’s always good to see new MJ footage and even when it is lighthearted he kills it, click play below and give it a watch and see what you reckon.

The ‘Good Homies’ Video

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

One of the best things about winning Thrasher’s Skater Of The Year award is you get to celebrate by taking some of your best mates on a skate trip to the destination of your choice. This years winner Kyle Walker opted to take Ishod Wair, Daan Van Der Linden, Zion Wright, Jackson Pilz, Louie Lopez, Nakel Smith, Reese Salken, Jake Donnelly, Peter Ramondetta and Chima Ferguson (all accompanied by mag editor in chief Jake Phelps) ‘down under’ to turn the skate spots of Melbourne into their playground. The ‘Good Homies’ video does not disappoint in any way shape or form, the next nine minutes will blow your mind.

Mark Baines – ‘In Progress Bonus Disc Part’

Tuesday, March 21st, 2017

We’re obviously huge fans of Sidewalk Mag here at the Black Sheep but we are also massive fans of their Sunday Service feature. This Sunday saw them post one of the best bonus parts from one of their most iconic videos. Back in 2011 they released the ‘In Progress’ bonus disk free with the December issue, it was filled with about half an hours worth of unused footage from the main ‘In Progress’ video which also featured the likes of Barney Page, Carl Shipman, James Foster, Conhuir and Denis Lynn, Tom Harrison, Nicky Howells, Black Sheep’s own Harry Lintell and many more UK shredders. The final section was held by none other than New Balance representative and one of the UK’s most productive heads Mark Baines along with appearances from Scott Palmer and Dave Mackey. Point your eyes in the direction of this overlooked gem to see some top quality skateboarding.
