Olly Tyreman is for those that don’t know, one of the Black Sheep’s most valuable team members. One of the funniest guys I’ve ever met, he never fails to entertain. A skateboard fanatic, ex-party animal and top geezer! When he passed through the store a couple of days ago it was only right to ask him some top 3’s on various topics. As the interview was happening he also spoke about the possibility that he’d be moving away to Dubai. You would’ve thought that would have taken a few months at least to plan but just a few days later he’s only gone and boarded the flight, legend. His unexpected visits to the store will be sadly missed but we wish him all the best in his latest travels. Yes PAL.

We hope you’ve learnt more about this puzzling man. I doubt anyone will ever understand what’s actually going on in his mind but what a guy. Top dogger, see you in the future pal and once again good luck with your adventure.
This year has been a busy one for us at The Black Sheep Store. To celebrate all the happenings we thought we would recap on some memories that some of you may have missed.
To start off with we would like to thank all you lovely people for the support you’ve shown us. Not just in the past year but since our birth in 2006. It has lead us to the grand opening of our newest and best store situated on Dale St, Manchester.
The opening off our store meant we had to close Central Skatepark that hopefully inspired the next generation the next generation of skaters for many years. It has to be one of the best parks I’ve ever skated, it was amazing to be part of something great in the Manchester scene and we hope you all enjoyed the time we had there as much as we did. Here’s the video of the last ever jam…
Then Sexual Stu was hired and proved his capabilities meaning he kept his job here, at Manchester’s finest The Black Sheep Store, PUMF.
We extended our team adding some rippers such as Jordan Sharkey.
Then also welcomed Seb Batty to the team…
Nearly forgot about our extension into the vert side of our team with none other than Reiss Johnson.
Harry Lintell released a Volcom ‘True To This’ part that blew away the minds of many skaters.
The best skating hobbit to grace this earth who is also a valuable member of our team, Eddie Belvedere, managed to bag himself a spot of the Dickies European team.
Stannerz got himself a GoPro so expect big things in the future. No need to be a HERO as he already is one..
A few members of our Black Sheep family went down to London to skate the House of Vans and they smashed it to pieces!
Speaking of the House Of Vans, they managed to make it to Manchester for a one off event allowing us guys to hold A Mangle Street Jam which saw an incredible amount of people congregate from all over, making the most of the free beer and cash for prize jam. As expected our team plus many others killed it showing the rest of the UK what Manchester is made of. Not only is the skating on point but the music from Manchester’s greatest Chimpo and Trigga is also featured in the edit making it nothing but pure genius.
Our good friend Phil Harvey made an edit with all the team in for the Ride channel. It’s yet another decent edit for you guys to watch.
Ollie Tyreman trained to become a fire-man.
Emerica shoes held a Wild In The Streets in Manchester earlier this year too and it was a day to remember! The sun was shining, the beers were flowing and the skating was at the highest level I’ve seen on the streets of our home town for a long time. Our team rider Harry Lintell also took the infamous castlefield rail board sliding it many years after the Manchester legend Woody attempted it. A lot of things went down in history that day so watch the edit below to understand what I’m talking about.
Just the other day Landscape released their promo video ‘Escapes’. Stannerz, who you may recognize from working in our store or being a Black Sheep Family member ended the video with some stunning trickery. Watch out as Landscape, over the past few months, seems to be on the rise again. Great news for us because we are huge fans. Hopefully more edits to come in the new year!
Throughout December we also in conjunction with Sidewalk Magazine released a series of edits every Friday. We had Stannerz, Seb Batty and Bad Man Barrett all with dope parts. Bad Man Barrett came through strongly with the grittiest edit we’ve seen this year. ODB as the the music choice too, what’s not to like?
For the 4th time we managed to win the Vans Shop Riots too, allowing us to enter the finals with other shops from all over Europe. Unfortunately we didn’t win the European finals but our team that went definitely did us guys proud! Next year we’ll have it in the bag so be prepared!
There has probably been many more events/happenings that we’ve not mentioned although there is quite a few there and each individual one needs celebrating. More importantly we hope everyone has an amazing New Years Eve tonight and we’ll see you all in the new year. Lots of love from everyone here at the Black Sheep Store!!!
As it’s coming up to Christmas we thought it would nice to keep the skate spirit alive during this cold winter by releasing an edit each Friday in connection with Sidewalk Magazine called Black Sheep Fridays. The first part to drop is Seb Batty’s and Jiri ‘George’ Bulin’s that went online earlier today. Nothing but pure gritty northern skating to feast your eyes on. Filmed and edited by Isaac ‘wasteman’ Wilkinson, you must watch. You can expect to see more sections dropping from the likes of Nick ‘Stannerz’ Stansfield, Chris ‘Badman’ Barrett, Eddie Belvedere and a solo part from just Seb Batty. So don’t forget to check the Sidewalk website each Friday for a fresh unseen edit from our infamous team. Big up!!
The clocks have gone forward an hour, its not dark when we get out of work, the sun is starting to shine and it seems like summer is eventually on its way! That could only mean one thing! Yes, its that time of year as we get ready for the Vans Shop Riot! Starting in the UK on the 25th – 26th April for two days of non stop action! This year sees Pioneer Skate Park in St.Albans hosting the event. £3000 prize money and an all expenses paid trip to the European finals is up for grabs! After the UK leg comes to a close on the 26th, the attention turns to Aalast, at the Flesh and Bones Skatepark, the scene of last years finals where Belgium’s own Rampaffairz skateshop just missed out on top spot to fellow countrymen Burnside so expect it to go off at this one! With as many as fifteen stops around Europe this year the series will be almost everywhere, from Portugal to Poland, Italy to Israel, before it all comes to a head in Spain for the final! Will the Black Sheep lads be there to take the top spot? ( My moneys on them! Come on lads!!! ) Keep your eyes peeled! More info such as a live stream will be up here on the blog at a later date obviously closer to the time!

So this week it was confirmed by Factory Media that Sidewalk magazine (Also along with Kingpin, Whitelines and various other titles) will exist no more in its printed form. A sad day for UK skateboarding, a sad day for skateboarding in general. Nobody within skateboarding really wants to see a shop, a company or in this case a well respected magazine cease to exist. For the past twenty years Sidewalk magazine has informed and supported skateboarders.
It opened up the window into our amazing culture that is UK skateboarding. It was the highlight of the month, you waited for it to be dropped through your door by the postman, or you rushed to your local skate shop after school or work to get a copy. Wherever you were it kept us informed of what was happening, when it was happening, you knew where to go, when to go and in its own way kept the UK scene in sync with each other in all parts of the country.
Now that times have changed and technology advances, our appetite for media is moving more towards being instantly gratified, with the likes of Facebook, Instagram and twitter to name a few, anything and everything can put out there for the world to see in a matter of seconds.
With a constant stream of photos and video clips being published on the world wide web it seems hard to imagine a time when we needed to rely on the printed text that was in front of our eyes. Despite the great efforts of people like Ben Powell, Andy Horsley, Ryan Gray, Leo Sharpe and everyone else involved with Sidewalk, the inevitable had to happen.
For now, Sidewalk will continue to bring us all the great things they do solely on their website. The very last edition is out now so go and grab a copy, as we say farewell to one of the most important parts of UK skateboarding that we have ever known.
The Black Sheep has been going strong for some years now so it was about time we made some shop decks for you lurkers to shred. Priced at £29.95they’re a real bargain and can be purchased in our city center store on Church St and online. Boards come with free grip so no need to worry about any hidden costs! Sizes start from 8″ up to a big whopper dogger 8.5″ with an average 8.25′ in between. Keep your eyes peeled because you may see some of our team riders taking one for a spin.
The feedback on the decks have been great, everyone who’s skated one has commented on how good the shape is. Also the coloured ply underneath the Target logo has been a huge hit… I mean why not add a bit of colour to spice up your life. With the Target logo, it’s obvious if your into hip hop that it was an idea taken from Public Enemy’s Target. If your not familiar with hip hops greatest then have a listen below and get to know…
Why not simply purchase one of our limited decks, get some Public Enemy on your mp3 player and go and tear the streets apart. Just a warning, they’re selling out really fast so don’t miss out on the hype!!!!!!!
Its that time again! The Vans Shop Riot finals are upon us and you can watch all the action unfold via our live stream on our Black Sheep blog. Independent shops and their teams from all over Europe have been battling it out for a place in the finals in Aalast, Belgium this weekend ( 11 – 12 October ). This year saw the Northen leg take place at Ramp1 in Warrington where our Black Sheep team and defending champions placed themselves in a respectable third. The Southern leg was held at Prevail Skatehouse in Poole, unfortunately our lads were just pipped to the post of top spot but still finished in a well deserved second place. That means there is no Black Sheep entry in the final for a change! We could win it every year but were just not that selfish! A new team will be crowned champions by Sunday evening, but until then lets look back at last years final!
Time schedule and live link below so get that kettle on and time that pizza delivery-
Get watching below for last years Vans Shop Riot held at The Works Skatepark in Leeds. Black Sheep Family smashed it’s back doors in and come through victorious as the number one European Skate Shop Team and yes we like to brag on the fact we’ve won more qualifiers and finals than any other team over the past 5 years!
Check the clip below to see how the Black Sheep tore apart Prevail Skatehouse in Poole at the Vans Shop Riot 2014. This year we managed to get together enough DOGGERS for a Black Sheep Shop Riot A and B team. As with the previous Shop Riots through the years the skating was top class, everybody was going for it and getting things on lock in the warm up ready for the qualifying heats, the skating seems to be getting better and better each year so well done to all who were on form! After a hectic afternoon we were down to the final three shops, Skate Pharmacy, The Ledge and our Black Sheep A team to battle it out for that lucrative number one spot! The A team managed to get a well deserved 2nd place, narrowly missing out to Skate Pharmacy to take the top spot! The lads will be taking home £600 between Jiri Bulin, Eddie Belvedere, Rob Smith and Rikk Fields. The B team also smashed it but unfortunately didn’t manage to place in the top 3 but big up to Andy Scott, Gary ‘Woody’ Woodward and Reiss Johnson for there effort. We already cant wait for the 2015 series where we will be back and keener than ever!
Filmed and edited by our bulk man Isaac Wilkinson!
You must all know by now that Central Skatepark is no longer here for all you moshers to shred it up….. R.I.P! It has been an mint 8 years and the support you guys have shown has been truly amazing! We can’t thank you enough for visiting us and showing your support! Some incredible stunts have gone down over the years but we had a last session not so long ago for the final hammers to be put down.. take a look at the clip below to see some final stunts from one of the best skateparks I’ve been too and had the chance or working with!!! CENTRAL ALL DAY DOGGERS!!!
P.S. Don’t worry though, watch out for some big moves about to happen from the Black Sheep Store…
If you haven’t already heard this very sad news but after 8 amazing years Central Skatepark is coming to an end! We will be holding a jam tomorrow on the 5th of July so be sure to make it down to give us a well deserved send off! There is no excuses not to come down and show your love as it will be FREE entry into the park and there will be some upset faces but mans will still be on a hype. There’s loads of prizes and give aways, a special guest MC for the day and DJ Rob DOGGER Smith on the decks. There will also be some special celebrity appearances from soap star extra Ollie Tyreman and 80’s throw back Alex Romain.
Over the years Central has changed its course a number of times trying to mix it up. I found the park to be suited to both skateboarding and BMX to its best whereas not many parks take that into consideration these days! This has lead to some great BMX events over the years and some even better skate events! Holding comps like The Vans Shop Riots, Cancer Research Jams to the best Christmas bashes in Manchester that has always ended with a mash up after party at Unity Radio….
The Black Sheep Store and Central would also like to thank everyone for help making the skatepark what it is today! Still can’t believe how long we have lasted and if it wasn’t for the support from our locals and visitors then it wouldn’t have happened! Bring your beers boards, bikes, blades and scooters…. anything goes and let’s give Central the send it off it deserves!
