Not So Serious Skateboarding

Sunday, July 27th, 2014

All hail Mr Simon Woodstock! King of not so serious skateboarding!

Words cant describe how rad this guy is, an innovator of skateboarding in his prime doing stuff nobody had seen or done since. No technical flip in flip out shit, no unbelievable fifty five stair handrail and no serious mega bucks sponsorship deals.  Skateboarding has seemed to become such a serious deal these days, now don’t get me wrong, for some people it’s their job and bills wont pay themselves! I mean, if the opportunity came to get paid a wage for skating you’d probably be silly not to think about it! But at the end of it all its all about having fun. That’s the main reason you start skating in the first place. You pick up a board or have a go on your mates or that kids who lives on your street and boom! The fun bug takes over!  Simon Woodstock puts the fun and enjoyment into skateboarding. Take twenty or so minutes out of your Sunday to watch this two part documentary about Simon’s journey through the highs and lows  of his skateboarding life.  If you can spare the time good on ya ! if not ….your probably far too serious!
Also check his guest boards  via Death Skateboards

GOLF WANG VANS THIS SATURDAY!

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014

If you didn’t catch the release that Vans Syndicate did with Golf Wang last year you’re in luck as we at The Black Sheep Store will be releasing the new colour ways this SATURDAY for you to PURCHASE. Last years model were quite simple colours from red, blue and black with a gum sole but the new ones are a lot brighter with a pink sole! There will be 3 different colours for you to choose from all with the same sole! Vans released images of the shoe earlier this week and they look banging….

We will be stocking all 3  Golf Wang shoes although you will have to wait till Monday to get the wheat ones but you will be informed further on their arrival. Also there will be some rules to obey as it will be one pair per customer to make things fair for everyone! The shop will be opening at 10:30 as normal but I would get down as soon as possible as we will be expecting queues! If you have never gone camping in the city centre this may be the time to do so although we do not encourage the idea.  Each pair will cost you £84.95 and sizes start from UK 5.5 up to UK 12. We have a few in each size so hopefully no one will go home empty handed!

Deck Of The Week – Enjoi

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014

Enjoi skateboard company has come a long way from being founded in 2000 by now Chocolate rider Marc Johnson with help from the legend that is Rodney Mullen. With a team consisting of some of the best professionals such as Caswell Berry, Jimmy Carlin, Louie Barletta, Jose rojo, Nester Judkins, Zack Wallin,  Wieger Van Wageningen and Ben Raemers it’s easy to see the excitement when a new drop from Enjoi comes into store! Enjoi have always had some of the funniest board graphics and adverts over the years and this series is no different.  Enjoi are probably the only company that don’t use their team riders doing actual skateboarding tricks in their adverts. Instead they use witty ads that depict skateboarding in a non-skateboarding way. In the most recent board series world famous pieces of art have been given the Enjoi twist! This weeks deck of the week is brought to you from their classic art series! Louie Barletta’s mug shot put onto the body of the Mona Lisa is priceless!

Along with the ‘Mona Louie’ 7.75” deck there is also the ‘Birth Of Nestor’ and ‘Wieger Van David’ both 8” and then Jose Rojo’s pro model the ‘Jose Zapata’ at 8.25”.  These boards and more Enjoi product  are available now online and in store, they also come with free grip when you buy your deck from us! They would also look pretty nice hanging on a wall somewhere in your house, there classic art pieces after all!

Section Hype!

Monday, July 14th, 2014

Following on from yesterdays piece on Sexual Stu’s top fives we decided to delve a little deeper and ask him, what’s the section that gets you on a mega hype  to go skating?

This one is an easy one for me ! When I was younger I used to watch this section endlessly, on repeat, maybe at least four or five times before getting the bus into town to skate, it got me so hyped back then and it still does when I watch it now. For me Jim Greco ‘s section on Baker 2G is a timeless classic! That opening line finishing off with the back three down the Med Choice gap wow! What a way to start a section! Then there’s that backside blunt down that dark grey hubba, switch ollie the down the big Wiltshere stairs, the backside 5-0 and backlip down the big rail and then that banging switch frontside flip ender!

Now don’t get me wrong, I know his other sections like his last Deathwish one were rad but for me 2G is the one to watch if you want to get gnarly, it gives me the hype up every time. Give this a watch, grab your board, go shred and try to learn back threes like Greco

PLAN B TRUE TRAILER

Thursday, July 10th, 2014

Back in 1991, Mike Ternasky put together one of the most dominant teams in the history of skateboarding, and many people agree that Plan B’s Unquestionable is the best skate video of all time! After his tragic death in a car accident in 1994, the future of the team seemed to be over.  Skip to 2005 and founding team members Danny Way and Colin McKay relaunched the company, with a new choice super team to carry on the dream and legacy of Plan B skateboards, and now the new era of Plan B is here!

Yes it’s that time we’ve all been waiting for…… the new PLAN B  video is on it’s way and I can’t wait! You should expect some insane stunts from the likes of Danny Way, Colin Mckay, Ryan Sheckler, PJ Ladd, Torey Pudwill, Pat Duffy, Felipe Gustavo and their new up and coming ams Trevor Mcclung and Scott Decenzo. Looking at the team above I’m positive this video is going to please all types of skaters from the vert lurkers to the street dogs to the gnarls. Personally I’m most looking forward to seeing a Ryan Sheckler part again. Going to be mint! Check the trailer below for a taster of what’s to come when Plan B True is finally released!

15 SECONDS BULLSHIT

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014

Is it just me or is anyone else getting pissed off with video’s that are being posted on various blog posts/social networking sites that are only 15 seconds long? You get a one push, the trick, a second of the landing then a logo to finish it off…. what is that about?! Don’t get me wrong some are short and sweet but mostly there short and shit..

I’m guessing its started to happen through instagram which is cool for short videos to be used on instagram because you expect a quick clip but when your on a hype n want to watch some mint skate action n you get loads of 15 bloody second clips it’s takes you that long to find something decent you’ve lost the motivation to go skating! I’ll tell you what I miss and that I’ve started to do again because of this bullshit is sticking on a good old VHS or DVD… can’t go wrong. Also the good side to this is you don’t have to read a load of skate nerds comments about the video when in fact they should be out skating too!! Watch the above clip then watch Lavar’s part below from Trilogy (VHS) and you tell me which one gets you more hyped to go tear the streets! It’s Stannerz speaking so I’m welcome to all your abuse if you don’t agree!

CENTRAL SKATEPARKS CLOSING JAM TOMORROW

Friday, July 4th, 2014

If you haven’t already heard this very sad news but after 8 amazing years Central Skatepark is coming to an end! We will be holding a jam tomorrow on the 5th of July so be sure to make it down to give us a well deserved send off! There is no excuses not to come down and show your love as it will be FREE entry into the park and there will be some upset faces but mans will still be on a hype. There’s loads of prizes and give aways, a special guest MC for the day and DJ Rob DOGGER Smith on the decks. There will also be some special celebrity appearances from soap star extra Ollie Tyreman and 80’s throw back Alex Romain.

Over the years Central has changed its course a number of times trying to mix it up. I found the park to be suited to both skateboarding and BMX to its best whereas not many parks take that into consideration these days! This has lead to some great BMX events over the years and some even better skate events! Holding comps like The Vans Shop Riots, Cancer Research Jams to the best Christmas bashes in Manchester that has always ended with a mash up after party at Unity Radio….

The Black Sheep Store and Central would also like to thank everyone for help making the skatepark what it is today! Still can’t believe how long we have lasted and if it wasn’t for the support from our locals and visitors then it wouldn’t have happened! Bring your beers boards, bikes, blades and scooters…. anything goes and let’s give Central the send it off it deserves!
