Black Sheep – Volcom Spring ’16

Wednesday, March 30th, 2016

It’s officially Spring, the clocks have been put forward an hour, the weather is picking up, flowers are starting to bloom but most importantly the Volcom Spring 16 collection is available from us here at The Black Sheep Store. The stylish collection is on point as ever with Volcom, and you know that there is guaranteed high class quality. Consisting of some classy hoodies, tasteful jackets and the nifty Don Pendleton Stone Pocket designed tee (scan below for more,) the collection does not disappoint.

What better way to celebrate the release than to send shop rider, worker, lurker and UK Volcom representative Nick ‘Stannerz’ Stansfield out round the streets of Manchester to bring us a short but sweet edit. Filmed all in one day in locations across the city like Urbis, Riverside, Salford and of course The Black sheep! Nick comes through with the goods and even earns himself a pint at one of the local boozers. Massive thanks to Isaac Wilkinson for filming and of course our man Stannerz for smashing it!

Mogwai For Altamont

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

Altamont have teamed up with legendary post – rock band Mogwai to produce this amazing collaboration. To celebrate being together as a band for twenty years, they decide to create two tees to pay homage to the last two decades of their discography. The first is a short sleeved tee that shows their first single ‘tuner’ and the second is a long sleeved tee which is designed after the bands most recent release ‘rave tapes’. With deep roots in skateboarding, Mogwai truly reflect what Altamont is all about – being cut from a different cloth. Have a look at the youtube clip below where guitarist Stuart Braithwaite talks about the band and how the collaboration came about! They will be available in store and online very shortly so be quick to get yours!

Happy Easter – Egg Head Skaters

Friday, March 25th, 2016

In conjunction with the Easter weekend, I thought we would keep everything Egg based. I’m sure a lot of you will already have tucked into at least one Easter Egg or maybe more so why not watch a load of skate sections. Featuring dudes with Egg heads! Please do not be offended, got to keep with the Easter theme after all haven’t I.

Who better to start with then Matt Mumford, one of skateboarding’s veterans. An absolute legend who has given so much to skateboarding. Releasing parts for generations although I’ve gone with his ‘Misled Youth’ section as it’s one of the best.

The next Egg Head to the collection is none other than the legend himself, Mike Vallely. At various stages of his career he rocked the bald head look allowing him to featured in the article.

Andy Roy is an Egg Head not to be messed with. He’s a gnarly dude, rad skater and mad Egg Head off his board.

The next Egg Head is Rodney Mullen. I have included good old Rodney not because the shape of his head but simply because he is an extremely intellectual dude. You thought Steven Hawkings was clever, think again.

Jason-Statham

Jason may not be a skater but lets appreciate that EGG HEAD!

Finally to finish off with have Marc Johnson. Probably the best skating Egg Head we will ever be graced with. Watch his 3 part section from Lakai’s ‘Fully Flared’ video as it’s bloody brilliant.

As well as all these powerful sections we are also holding some eggcellent weekend deals. First of all you need to follow our our Instagram to get involved. For now though take a look below to gather an idea of what we will be doing and what’s up for grabs….

Long Live Southbank – The Bigger Picture

Thursday, March 24th, 2016

Boris-south-bank-skateboarding

Southbank is one of the UK’s most influential spots and is located in the heart of our capital, London. For a huge number of years this spot has been skated by generation after generation, then in the past couple of years the good people at Southbank have been doing their best to keep this place going as it was supposed to be redeveloped. That would’ve meant an iconic landmark for tourism and skateboarding would have been destroyed then replaced with your average Starbucks etc. That was not an option as it has been a second home for a load of skaters from all over the world. After a lot of hard work the good people at Long Live Southbank with the help from some of the public won the prolonged debate and you can expect to see this spot for another number of years now which is obviously great news! The first documentary that is featured below is ‘You Can’t Move History’ and it features interviews with not only some of the skaters who have frequented over the years (such as Jason Caines, Jenna Selby, Domas Glatkauskas, Joey Pressey, Henry Edwards-Wood and Louis Woodhead), but also the lawyers, community activists and other assorted behind the scenes types who helped keep the space safe for skateboarders. It is well worth putting the kettle on and kicking back for..

Skateboarding doesn’t get more interesting than that in my eyes, the community coming together as one is great and hopefully we shall see more of that in the future. The second documentary below ‘The Bigger Picture’ also goes into huge depth about skateboarding’s longest surviving spots. Filmed and edited by local Henry Edwards-Wood it is yet another inspiring documentary that is once again worth watching.

It doesn’t take a lot of brains to see how important that place is to a huge amount of people. Long Live Southbank (the good people who have worked so hard to keep Southbank) have also released a book that features images from the start to this very day. It is an celebration of the history and culture of the Under-croft area of Southbank and the community that has evolved there over the years. It is definitely one to add to the collection. Hit the link below to grab your copy.

Also, if you are ever in London you’d be stupid not to make space during your visit to see one of the most creative spaces the UK has to offer. You will be more than welcomed and maybe you’ll be able to understand into more detail why that spot is so important to the area and skateboarding as a whole. Keep it as it is!

‘HOLY STOKES – A Real Life Happening’ by Volcom

Thursday, March 24th, 2016

The Volcom video, ‘Holy Stokes – A Real Life Happening’ is just around the corner, well it is available on iTunes on 7th June to be exact. Volcom, being one of skateboarding’s biggest brands have a team that is not to be messed with. This new video that will be released a few months from now is going to be one to keep an eye out for, trust me. You’ll see the likes of Alec Majerus, Arto Saari, Caswell Berry, Chris Pfanner, Collin Provost, David Gonzalez, Dennis Busenitz, Grant Taylor, Louie Lopez, Dustin Dollin, Ryan Sheckler, Rune Glifberg and Ben Raemers. That’s just a few of many too, can you now understand how powerful ‘Holy Stokes’ is going to be? I’m personally most excited for Busenitz for obvious reasons then also Bean Raemers. Raemers, a skater from the UK making it onto a worldwide Volcom video, now that’s something to be proud of. For now have a little watch above to view the first of many trailers to come, HYPED!

French Intern’s Road Trips

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016

Every summer, THE PLO SKATE CLUB ( France ) organises a Skate trip in France for the kids and in a foreign country for the older ones. Kids travel in France to Skate all the good skateparks and spots our country has to offer. The older ones have to choose a new destination. We’ve been to Spain a few times, the basque country, known for these crazy rad bowls and concrete skateparks.

In 2013 a few of us went to Copenhagen for the CPH PRO 2013 with all the pros, then Sweden and finally Germany (kiel) to visit our German friends who’ve been to France a year before.

In 2013, members of the Skate Association decided to go further and take the plane for the US. A decision taken after more than 20 years of work for Skateboarding. The road trip of every skater’s life, the one your thinking about after watching your first video. They make it possible after all these years of patience and dedication for the association, all these demos, contests, kid’s classes, and working day to day at the Skatepark.

The newest edit from North Skate Mag – Sign, has just landed on the internet.
