Thirty Years of Animal Chin

Monday, October 31st, 2016

Thirty years on from the iconic Powell Peralta video ‘The Search For Animal Chin’ the Bones Brigade has regrouped for a very special occasion.

Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill and Tommy Guerrero accompanied by photographer Grant Brittain attended a heavy and nostalgic session on a re-built version of the iconic ‘Chin ramp’ to re-shoot Brittain’s famous four-man invert photo.

This really is a brilliant way to celebrate such an influential part of skateboarding history so without further ado, let Tony and the gang put a smile on your face.

Jordan Sharkey – ‘Make It Count’ Winner

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016

Jordan Sharkey has done it and when I say done it I mean he has won the finals of the infamous Element Skateboards ‘Make It Count’ competition. His nerves have probably been stacked high in anticipation awaiting the results but now it’s time for him too relax. Well maybe not relax as this is his opportunity to showcase the endless capability he has on lock. It was a thoroughly deserved win and we would like too thank all who showed their support by voting. He has smashed it since he popped up onto the UK skateboard scene a few years back and I highly doubt he’s going to disappear anytime soon. Get used to the power he produces on his board as this result will hopefully take his skating to the next step. We are proper buzzing for you Sharkey, you’ve earned it chief. Watch his winning edit above!!!

Spanky – Made Chapter 2 B-Sides

Tuesday, October 25th, 2016

A few years ago Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long disappeared from the Baker and Emerica rosters. Since then, while filming for Made Chapter 2 – a video he thought he would have no part in, got his pro board back on Baker Skateboards. Made chapter 2 was one the biggest videos of the year and now the B-Sides are doing the rounds. The 11 minutes of footage that was posted by Thrasher Magazine shows how Spanky’s section came together. Some people have said this is his come back part but he never really fully went away, lets just say its his resurgence. After years in the skateboarding spotlight he’s ripping more than ever.

Welcome To Hell – The Raw Tour Tapes

Saturday, October 22nd, 2016

20 years ago back in 1996, Toy Machine (then just three years old) released its third video titled Welcome To Hell. It was a dramatic change compared to Live! from 1994, when the team was made up of Ed Templeton, Jerry Fowler, Ethan Fowler, Joe Nemeth and others like Joel Danenhauer who could be found skating the Huntington Beach skate park. That progressed into Heavy Metal, Toy Machine’s second video offering from 1995 which saw Jamie Thomas take most of the control in the video and directing side of things. At that time, skateboarding popularity was on the up-rise. The X-Games had premiered on television (1995) and having a career within skateboarding was looking more viable. The early-90’s Goofy Boy stage of tiny wheels, giant clothes and oh so tech ledge combinations was faded away and by 1996 the emphasis came back to style and speed. That summer the team went on a U.S tour and now 20 years later raw footage has emerged from Josh Stewart’s archives. Ed, Jamie, Donny Barley, Brian Anderson, and the team skated demos on car parks with random obstacles in front of mellow crowds. There are baggy jeans and, of course, cargo pants, and there are early Zero T-shirt sightings. In the years that followed riders came and went but Ed stuck with Toy Machine. Welcome To Hell helped inspire an entire generation of skateboarders. Click play on the clips below for a glimpse of mid-90’s nostalgia.

Element Make It Count – Vote For Sharkey

Thursday, October 20th, 2016

I would like everyone to appreciate the standard of skateboarding that Jordan Sharkey produces because lets be honest, it is ridiculous. He is one of the most technical, consistent, stylish and powerful skateboarders that the UK has ever seen. We have got to know his skating in Manchester extremely well over the past year and it’s no joke that this guy is capable of anything. He managed to bag himself a spot in the Element ‘Make It Count’ final by winning the two previous rounds. Firstly against the whole of the UK and then against the best in Europe. He is now faced against 5 other amazing skateboarders from across the globe. The final consists of Sharkey and the 5 other skaters who made it through. Each person was given a week in Barcelona to film the best shit they could. The end result is a small clip from each individual and the winner is decided by people voting for who they think deserves it. You can vote from 1-10 for each clip  but all you really need to know is…… give Sharkey a 10! After you watch his clip (can only be viewed on the Berrics website) you’d be stupid to score it anything less! He absolutely killed it! He deserves the win and his talent on a skateboard is endless. Hit the link below to be directed over to the Berrics too place your vote….. SHARKEY FOR THE WIN!!!!!!

I would also like to thank Element Skateboards for holding a competition such as this one. It gives skaters from all over the opportunity that may not come around that often. Good work guys.

Volcom ‘Euro Stokes’ Edit

Thursday, October 20th, 2016

A couple of months previous to the infamous release of the Volcom Holy Stokes video the Volcom dudes decided to gather a crew and hit some spots in the UK and Europe to try and gather some last minute footage for the video. The van consisted of our very own Harry Lintell and then Ben Raemers, Eniz Fazliov, Alain Goikoetxea and Daan van der Linden, along with flow riders Dan West, Charlie Birch, Gav Coughlin and Victor Pellegrin. Now that’s a power crew and it’s no surprise the guys managed to produce enough footage to not only add to their parts in Holy Stokes but to also produce this fine edit that is featured above, Euro Stokes. Skateboarding seriously doesn’t get much better than this and if you’re after a short video that consists of all different styles of skateboarding then this is definitely for you. Start watching right now and get hyped on your next shred. There was also an article on the Sidewalk Magazine website that documented all the happenings from the trip so be sure to check that out too as there are some photographic gems in there, hit the link below to do so…
