New Chris Pfanner Antihero part with heavy cameos

Saturday, October 3rd, 2020

Let’s be honest, AH are pretty much untouchable when it comes to video releases and this here new Chris Pfanner Antihero part with heavy cameos from the crew only serves to reiterate this.
As ever, released with minimum Social Media circle jerking beforehand, this one fell straight into our collective eyeballs and delivered. It’s highly reassuring that in a skateboard universe where Nyjah can barely go for a shit without 85 repost Insta accounts frothing about it, Antihero just go skating, film it and then let us see it without all the algorithmic cock-teasing that everyone else seems to be addicted to.

In terms of what you get – eight and a half minutes of Pfanner doing what he does best: blasting full speed, leaping everything in his path and somehow making moustaches seem dope. No half-stepping here – this is all-killer from the now 36 year old beast himself. In amongst the Chris Pfanner footage you also get a brace of Frank Gerwer, Raney Beres, GT, recent Antihero recruit Victor Pellegrin and Daan Van Der Linden clips. I’m struggling to recommend this further than just describing who’s on it to be honest but if you need more, Daan’s cameo’s consists of three enders effectively and that’s only scratching the surface on what’s on this.
If you’re not already all about Antihero then there’s something wrong with you.
Tune in, turn on, tweak out.

New Chris Pfanner Antihero part

Although not directly connected to the above we’d be remiss if we didn’t raise our glasses in memory of DLXSF stable mate and skate industry legend Keith Hufnagel who sadly passed away in late September. It’s no exaggeration to say that Huf’s influence on skateboarding culture is almost unparalleled.
Not only did his style and approach to skateboarding help to redefine street skating, but his subsequent pioneering involvement in the skateboard industry helped to redefine skater-owned retail and soft goods models the world over. His early passing leaves a huge void at the centre of skate culture and we would like to offer our condolences and deepest sympathies to his family and friends across the globe. Rest in power.

A loveletter to Jeff Grosso

Wednesday, April 8th, 2020

The last twelve months have been rough as far as skateboarding is concerned.
Far too many people have passed long before their time and on March 31st we lost another stellar human being – hence this loveletter to Jeff Grosso.
Grosso passing has left a huge void globally and the reaction to his death speaks to the level of affection that our culture held for the lovable curmudgeon.

It ought to come as no surprise to any of you reading this that we loved the man.
All of us have had the pleasure of meeting Grosso a bunch of times in various destinations under the auspices of everything from ASR trade shows to unexpected demos in Shrewsbury. Always he was funny, talkative and the loudest voice in the room. A truly lovely man.

He was a walking, talking skateboard encyclopedia. A man who wore his heart and his flaws on his sleeve and didn’t give a hoot about who that might upset. As spokespeople for a culture go, we couldn’t really have asked for anyone better than Jeff Grosso.

A loveletter to Jeff Grosso

Like everybody else, we’ve been binging on Grosso content since his untimely death, so as a nod in the direction of the man, we thought we’d share some of our favourites with you as a loveletter to Jeff Grosso from some more people who loved him.

Skateboard culture should be forever grateful to Jeff Grosso – for his stalled inverts, for his resurrection from the pits of addiction that allowed him to reappear and become our collective mouthpiece, for his unswerving dedication to shining a light of every aspect of skate culture and not just concentrating on the hottest and the coolest, and for the fact that he was happy to share his private life with us all via his Instagram account.

Most of all though, in this sad time, we ought to be eternally thankful that Vans, Jeff and his friends at Six Stair recorded so much of his love for skateboarding over the last decade.
Grosso’s Loveletters to skateboarding are going to go onto to become some of the most influential, culturally deep and significant reflections ever made on skate culture.

So without further ado, and with no need to be in chronological order – here’s our loveletter to Jeff Grosso. There’s so much out there on the Internet so this is only intended as a pointer based on our own playlists since the great man passed. Either way – buckle up and enjoy.

Thankfully, there are as-yet-unaired episodes of Loveletters still to come out with Season 11 episodes focusing on the Japanese and the LGBTQ skate scenes currently under production by Sixstair so we have much to look forward to. For now – tell your friends you love them and stay safe. Jeff Grosso rules!

The above are some of our favourites – if you want to catch the entire back catalogue of Grosso’s Loveletters – you can do so here: Vans playlist Grosso Loveletters in order.

Let’s close it off with Jeff’s appearance in the still fucking incredible Antihero ‘Destination Unknown’ video. All hail the man. We love you Oliver!

Antihero skateboards do it again ‘Arbitrary Function’

Friday, January 3rd, 2020

All I wanted for Christmas was more Grant Taylor footage! Like a scabby Santa, Antihero skateboards came through and dropped a video bomb just in time for the festive season. Like their last full-lengther Destination Unknown, 2019’s Antihero skateboard’s release came in the form of a completely unheralded 15-minute banger.
In an age where people rarely go to the bog without teasing their toilet decision on Instagram for a month beforehand, it’s immensely refreshing to see that Antihero still have the bollocks to just drop a video as heavy as Implosionistic tendencies: Arbitrary Function with almost zero pre-hype.
The reason? Well, they just don’t need to hype it up first. It’s Antihero, it’s going to be sick!

Antihero skateboards do it again

Established in 1995 by early street skating pioneer and one time Santa Monica Airlines and Underworld Element pro skater Julien Stranger, Antihero skateboards appeared at a pivotal time in skateboarding’s development away from the inward-looking overly-technical skateboard scene of the early 1990’s.
Emerging from under the Deluxe umbrella, from the outset Antihero represented the raw underbelly of skateboarding and offered a pure vision of what being a skateboarder meant – regardless of trends or perceived rules.

Antihero skateboards do it again

Their inaugural video release ‘Fucktards‘ (1997) featuring the original team of Julien Stranger, Sean Young, John Cardiel, Eric J and Bob Burnquist firmly established an aesthetic that showcased every style of skating from vert to street and focused on the grimier aspects of the culture.
Anti Hero skateboards‘ instantly recognisable graphical output followed in the same vein with memorable graphics from the likes of Todd Francis (amongst many others) that celebrate the underbelly of the American dream and revel in the realities of street trash, political corruption, vagrancy and the darker side of life.

As the brand grew, the team changed but the underlying philosophy did not – hit the road and skate everything and anything that you encounter.
Antihero‘s video releases to date are numerous and include classics such as:
Fucktards (1997)
Cow (1998)
Two Songs (2002)
Cash Money Vagrant (2003)
Bonus Footage (2006)
and their full-length video Destination Unknown (2014) released in customary fashion with absolutely zero advertising beforehand to worldwide acclaim.

Antihero skateboards do it again

Here’s the timeless 1997 Fucktards in full just to remind you why this Antihero skateboards is now, and always will be, the shit.

When you’ve done that – take your fingers for a stroll over to our webstore and fill your boots as we’ve loads of Antihero merchandise online and ready to roll.

Sunday, June 18th, 2017

I must admit I sometimes prefer these rough cut edits more than the final product. Take a look behind the scenes at the process including alternative angles to see what it took Tony T to film his Spitfire X AntiHero part. He’s been Skater Of The Year, a King of the Road champion and his latest part showed us that he’s much more explosive than ever. Lets give some well deserved big ups to one of the all time greats, TNT!
