December top 3 – Atlantic Drift, Skate Cafe and Blondey

Tuesday, December 17th, 2019

It’s been a great month so far for UK-related video releases so here’s Black Sheep’s December top 3 – Atlantic Drift, Skate Cafe and Blondey.

First up, the latest in the Atlantic Drift series: Jacob Harris continues to disprove the tired moan that ‘the Internet is ruining skateboard videos’ by dropping yet another sublimely re-watchable clip via Thrasher Magazine.
The tenth Atlantic Drift sees the extended crew over in Russia sampling post-Soviet marble and some of the roughest looking bank spots this side of Blackburn. If you’ve watched the previous episodes of Atlantic Drift then you’ll know what to expect: if you haven’t – dive into the Atlantic Drift back catalogue here.
Once you’ve watched this month’s Thrasher cover star Tom Knox destroying Moscow, you could do a lot worse than to check out our massive range of Thrasher clothing (including a huge sale section) and/or pick yourself up some New Balance Numeric kicks and help support the dudes behind this pinnacle of Internet skateboarding. Who knows? They might even release them all on DVD one day.
Also, if you appreciate Photoshop comedy – go check out this Tom Knox/Mike Arnold merriment here.

Following that banger is the latest VX1000 drop from UK brand Skateboard Cafe entitled ‘Sonata’.
Coming in at a steady 10 minutes, this is another bog break worthy pause for anyone who has missed it so far.
Featuring the likes of Sam Nobbs, Ollie Lock, Francis Peters, Dom Henry, Korahn Gayle, Josh Arnott, Harry Ogilvie, Shaun Currie, Savannah Stacey Keenan and the stair chomping Layth Sami – this is Skate Cafe at its best: Bristol and London heavy, jazz music and archaic camera aesthetics. Can’t go wrong really.
Sit down and take a sip.

If you’re still hungry for UK related Internet enjoyment then look no further than Blondey McCoy’s first post-Palace skateboards full-lengther (well, Internet ‘full lengther’ at least).
Now you’re fucked if watching this makes you thirsty for a pair of his see-through adidas Skateboarding Superstar 80’s, as we sold out of them in 5 hours but, the video clip is still more than worth a watch.
He’s an divisive character is Blondey – to some he’s an over-privileged kid whose skateboarding is over shadowed by his fashion persona but, to just as many, he’s a UK based ripper following a sponsorship path almost unthinkable five years ago. Either way, he’s got a mean ollie impossible on him.
Still not keen on the Kanye track though…

With that said – whilst you can’t purchase his transparent skate shoes from us any more (unless there’s a post-Christmas re-stock) – you can still get yourself knee deep in solid adidas Skateboarding footwear as we have absolutely shed loads of it in stock.
Peep these Metropolitan adidas Superstar 80’s below for a similar vibe, only without the potential for showing off your verrucas.

Over and out…

Nike SB Trust Fall by Jacob Harris, Ant Travis and Aaron Meza

Friday, July 5th, 2019

The latest piece from the Swoosh media machine premiered last week in London and as anticipated, Nike SB Trust Fall by Jacob Harris definitely lived up to the high expectations created by the roster of skaters and filmers involved. Clocking in at 23 minutes, Nike SB Trust Fall drops neatly into the category of a clip that would’ve constituted a full-length video release only a few years ago and delivers a package that crosses various boundaries within the immense Nike SB team universe.
Obviously we’re stoked to see fellow Brits Casper Brooker and Kyron Davis get some heavy repping in this one and both of them more than come through with serious skating up to par with the offerings of the various other Swoosh luminaries featured.

Part window into some of the (globally at least) lesser known members of the Swoosh army, part hype for the tenth anniversary of the iconic Janoski shoe – Trust Fall is one of those clips not hobbled by the inevitably throw away nature of Internet content. This is obviously due to the skating featured, but also definitely down to the calibre of filmers and editors involved too, not to mention a very diverse and, some might say, unexpected soundtrack given the fact that it’s a Nike SB piece.

Atlantic Drift‘s maestro Jacob Harris filmed the majority of it, with US based support from Ant Travis, along with contributions from Nike SB core crew mainstay Johnny Wilson so it’s low on the over-rinsed handrail NBD’s and Sci-Fi camera set ups and very high on the crusty spots/spontaneous street vibes. Additionally, with Crailtap/FTC/Viceland alumni Aaron Meza pitching in as overall project lead, Trust Fall has a proper sense of cohesion often missing from these montage-heavy shoe brand pieces.

(If you’re not sure who Aaron Meza is, then go watch the FTC video Penal Code 100a right now for an introduction to just one of the numerous iconic 90’s skate video that Mr Meza has been responsible for over the last three decades.)

Standouts for us were Casper’s ridiculously popped 360 flip in the line, Kyron’s back up varial heel (complete with Mike Arnold champagne BGP’s) and Sean Malto‘s unthinkably impossible nollie flip over the Meanwhile 2 Gonz Gap. With that said – those are just three of the bangers lurking within this bastard so, if you haven’t watched it already – do so now. If you need further convincing, how does this line up sound?
Blake Carpenter, Daan Van Der Linden, Donovon Piscopo, Kyron Davis, Caleb Barnett, Casper Brooker, Karsten Kleppan, Cyrus Bennett, Max Palmer, Sean Malto, Andrew Wilson, Nik Stain and Stefan Janoski.
Heavy, heavy business…Nike SB Trust Fall is going to be on repeat for us for a while.

If you fancy finding out more regarding the filming and editing process, and reading about some of the behind-the-scenes stories related to the making of this one, then head over to the Free Mag site and read Ryan Gray’s interview with Casper Brooker and Jacob Harris that dropped on Monday.
Click the Sam Ashley photo below to peep that.

Now if all those long lens zoom-ins have whet your appetite for some new creps then we suggest that you head over to the Black Sheep store front and pick up some Nike SB kicks – we’ve loads on sale right now, including various iterations of the decade old Janoski shoe that’s being celebrated in the clip you’ve just watched.

Thrasher Magazine Atlantic Drift capsule available 9/1/2018

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

There’s a Thrasher Magazine Atlantic Drift capsule floating this way…

thrasher_atlantic_drift

We’ve been hooked, hypnotized and highly anticipating each installment of Jacob Harris’ video series since the first episode of ‘Atlantic Drift’ debuted just over a year ago. Now you can show your support towards a genuine contender for the UK’s most interesting crew with a selection of Thrasher Magazine Atlantic Drift apparel.

The capsule consists of t-shirts, longsleeves, crewnecks and hoodies featuring the ethereal jellyfish motif from the series opening titles. We also highly recommend grabbing a copy of the latest issue of Thrasher which features a fantastic article on the Atlantic Drift crew on their journey to San Francisco last year – the video documentation of which should be making its way to the internet around the time you’re reading this…

Jake’s presentation of skateboarding in Atlantic Drift is more akin to a short film and certainly surpasses the aesthetics (and online shelf-life) of whatever else is announced via the mindless scroll through an Instagram news feed we’re sure you’re familiar with. Take quality filming, enthralling visuals, enchanting music then combine those aspects with the talents of Tom Knox, Chris Jones, Casper Brooker, Mike Arnold, Silvain Tognelli, Nick Jensen and Remy Taviera and you’re onto a winner.

The series is further evidence (like you needed it…) of Harris’ camera wielding and creative abilities and if you’re unfamiliar with his visual back catalog then you should imminently redirect your attention the videos ‘Square One’, ‘Eleventh Hour’ and ‘Vase’.

While we’re on the subject, we highlight recommend revisiting previous installments of the series, which we’ve made easy for you with the following links…

Episode 1: London / Episode 2: St Pauls / Episode 3: Paris / Episode 4: New York / Episode 5: Hippy Jumps

Have a browse of the Thrasher Magazine Atlantic Drift collection below. The capsule is available tomorrow (9/1/2018) in-store and online at: https://www.blacksheepstore.co.uk/thrasher.html

Atlantic Drift – Episode 4

Tuesday, July 18th, 2017

If you have seen anything else by Jacob Harris or any of the previous Atlantic Drift episodes you probably already know whats in store. The finest visual treat is the latest in the Atlantic Drift series, episode 4 this time filmed in New York. This one surpasses what has come before in what was already a high level of brilliance in the series’ earlier outings. Once again released in conjunction with Thrasher Magazine, featuring the combined abilities of Mike Arnold, Casper Brooker, Tom Knox, Mark Suciu, Kevin Coakley and more, alongside the standard high definition filming, there isn’t really any edits that can compare. The final installment of this really enjoyable web series is nothing short of amazing, Harris has the eye for the perfect shot, and this does not disappoint.

Atlantic Drift Episode 3 by Jacob Harris

Thursday, May 4th, 2017

The Atlantic Drift episodes have been nothing but spectacular. Each and every time I see a glimmer or trailer of the latest episode on various social media aspects it definitely gets the blood flowing. This episode above is the latest one to the collection and I would be surprised if you haven’t already hit the play button. Like before in the previous 2 episodes it has been filmed and edited by London’s shredder Jacob Harris. A film-maker who is not only incredible at producing some fine edits but who is also a beast himself on the other side of the lens. Back to the ‘Atlantic Drift’ episodes because there seems to be a theme flowing throughout the individual edit too. For example the first one was located in just London, the second at St Paul’s which is an infamous and widely known spot to the 3rd and freshest where the French city Paris holds the limelight. Sit back, relax and enjoy this masterpiece as it doesn’t get much better. If you missed the first 2 episodes then watch them below or you could watch all three anyway for the vibes of a full length video. Sorted!
