Chocolate skateboards overload plus video treats

Saturday, February 27th, 2021

Chocolate skateboards should need no introduction seeing as its the sister (or brother?) brand to the mighty Girl Skateboards. As a member of the Crailtap family Chocolate has played host to some of most innovative, stylish and influential skaters of all time, along with releasing numerous videos rightly hailed as timeless classics.
Founded in 1994, one year after the formation of Girl skateboards itself, Chocolate originally played host to a crew of skaters and associated Crail heads who simply wouldn’t fit on the Girl roster.
The original squad of Keenan Milton, Chico Brenes, Daniel Castillo, Paulo Diaz, Richard Mulder, Shamil Randle, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Ben Sanchez (many of whom had previously ridden for World Industries brands similarly to the Girl team) was introduced via the inaugural stand-alone Chocolate skateboards video Las Nueve Vidas De Paco in 1995.
Directed by Crailtap co-owner Spike Jonze, ‘Paco’ as it’s known, established the cinematic approach that came to be associated with Chocolate Skateboards from its inception. Close to 30 years after its original release this one still, as the kids say, ‘bangs’. Feast on the full chunk below.

We’ve just had a huge Crailtap drop arrive at the shop also so, if perusing some of their back catalogue gets you in the mood to dive in, simply clickity-click below and get tooled up.

Chocolate skateboards overload

Over the three decades since its formation, Chocolate skateboards have added and said farewell to many rippers with their current team looking as solid as ever.
Most recent official addition Erik Herrera dropped a banger of an intro part a few weeks back too, which you can peep at the top of this post.
Additionally, the Crailtap YouTube has been going off of late uploading full length versions of their extensive video back catalogue, along with helpful product-related clips like the one below.
If ordering decks over the web concerns you, check this out first to get a better idea of wheelbases, tail lengths etc etc before you come back and purchase from our huge range of Girl and Chocolate decks

With the above said, don’t forget about our current Lock Down Sale where you can snag yourself some heavy bargains after you’ve picked up a Chocolate skateboard.

Last thing before you go – do yourself a favour and re-watch the 1999 Chocolate Tour video.
Now go grab your nuts.

Manchild and Simon Bannerot are pro for Girl Skateboards

It’s a rare day indeed that the very venerable House of Crailtap, (one of the originators of the concept of the skater-owned brand), formally add new pros to their team, so the recent announcement that Manchild and Simon Bannerot are pro for Girl Skateboards ought to make a least some ripples in the skateboarding universe.

If you’re getting co-signed by the likes of Mike Carrol and Rick Howard then it’s safe to say firstly that you are very talented on a skateboard, but also, and infinitely more importantly, you’re not a bellend in any shape or form and that, besides being good at tricks, you also possess a larger than average dose of that ineffable ‘something’ that makes people stand out in the current ocean of skateboarding content.
Being big fans of Crailtap and Lakai, their contribution to global skateboarding culture, their video output (you might as well watch ‘Mouse’ in full right now since I’ve made it easy) and their talent for picking people gifted with otherworldly talent (to name but a few things we ought to be grateful to them for) I figured that the recent news was excuse enough for a quick mind prompt of some banging footage of both of the heads in question, via a couple of bangers from the Girl and Lakai footage archives.

First up we have the ridiculously banging ‘Extra Flare’ Tyler ‘Manchild’ Pacheco that Thrasher dropped a couple of years back as part of their never ending commitment to raw footage. This one contains all of Manchild’s footage from Lakai‘s 2017 full-length release The Flare with all the behind-the-scenes stuff that didn’t make it into the full thing. You’ve got to love this kind of shit – back in the day all this footage would be lost to DVD Extras that nobody watched but now, thanks to the completist’s field day that is the Internet, you get a chance to see it all: the tries, the fails, the security guards kicking off and all the other bits that give you a better idea of how someone really skates. Pay close attention to that frotside flip on the earthquake-created (I assume) spot at 1:53 and that backside bigspin at Fort Miley if you need further information on why this dude is pro for Girl

Following that, here’s Simon Bannerot’s masterfully put together web footage remix containing footage predating his appearance on Lakai footwear‘s The Flare. Remixed by Girl uber-fan Daniel Policelli (check @danielpolicelli on Insta for more), this is an insight into the equally otherworldy talents of Mr. Bannerot – rails, tranny, ledge tech – this dude can do it all.

If you’re still hungry for more from these two, then we can wholeheartedly recommend a re-peep of the very recent Bangers & Mash Girl x Kodak collab tour that took place in London in January of this year to coincide with the opening of Selfridge’s indoor bowl.
More Simon Bannerot, more Manchild and a dusting of Sean Malto and Rick McCrank just for good measure.
If you missed this the first time – sink your eyeballs in now. That last trick is fucking bonkers! It takes a lot to make Leo Sharp shit his pants these days but that tailslide flip out over the road at Big Chalky did just that. If you’re giving Big L the shivers and impressing random members of the public so much that they feel obliged to give you a tenner (true story) then you’re doing something right!

If you fancy throwing your pound coin shaped support behind these two maniacs, then go have a look at the recent Lakai footwear drops and pick yourself up a skater-owned bargain.

Vans Skate Berle Pro – UK Release

Now we’ve been #BigFansOfHisWork for a while (see our Black Sheep Store instagram for hashtag reference) so to see the Vans Skate Berle Pro come to fruition is extremely welcomed.

Elijah Berle’s Vans history dates back to 2012. In this year Berle’s all out attack gained him number one spot at Tampa AM along with Transworld, Skateboarder and The Skateboard Mag covers. Plus topping the boom year out with TSM’s ‘Year Best AM’ award. Since the initial onslaught Berle established himself firmly on the ever dope Chocolate Skateboards team. Then proceeding to knock out one hell of a memorable part for ‘Pretty Sweet.’

Moving on from Berle’s first introduction to the skate scene, his much anticipated debut Vans part “No Other Way” did not disappoint. Initially gaining coverage through the Vans Skate Instagram and social media platforms the below Thrasher Magazine “Raw Files” shows what a serious powerhouse Elijah Berle has become.

Following on from Elijah’s long term sponsorship with Chocolate Skateboards he departed ways for the new kids on the block. Welcoming Berle with open arms Jason Dill and Vans riders Anthony Van Engelen invited the style master to join the elite Fucking Awesome Skateboards team. Known for the diverse mix of riders with an emphasise on raw skateboarding Elijah became the perfect fit with a much deserved pro model following soon after. All this whilst working towards his next Vans Skate part in the form of the highly regarded “Propeller” video. Tirelessly filmed and edited by Greg Hunt this section cemented Elijah’s professional status. Featuring a heavy mix of transition skateboarding and true veteran style street skating this became to go to video part for all round pre-skate hype.

So with the short background above of Elijah Berle and his ever so sweet history with Vans Skate Shoes. It’s no wonder after the unquestionable ridiculous footage from the past few years Vans have done the right thing and let Elijah design his own Pro skate shoes from the ground up.

Utilising the newly produced Vans “Wafflecup” along with input from Elijah all the way. The new Vans Skate Berle Pro silhouette is designed with the mantra “Less Is More.” To explain this further the idea behind a skate shoe with no foot-bed inserts is purely to achieve the all important board feel. To make this happen without compromising the impact protection and day to day comfort Vans Pro Skate have incorperated the much loved “Wafflecup” construction along with the comfort enhancing LUXliners. Without getting to technical on the makeup of Berle’s first ever Vans Pro shoes it basically fits like a (foot?) glove and protects as a Cupsole does.

Also as standard from all Vans Pro Skate, Berle’s shoe features the Vans Duracap under layer upper reinforcement along with the longer lasting Vans Original Waffle sole compound.

The global release date (including the UK) for the Vans Berle Pro is set for Saturday February 9th 2019. Vans always come correct with delivery of product and we’re 100% guaranteed of receiving all available colour-ways for release day.
