25 minutes of Vans Europe destruction with ‘Tom’s Tales’

Monday, May 11th, 2020

Fucking hell Vans Europe! That really ought to suffice as far as the text for this post goes but Google doesn’t accept honest exclamations of sheer shock and awe so bear with me. Released today under the moniker of ‘Tom’s Tales’ – the clip above features the Vans Europe crew absolutely decimating spots everywhere from Athens to Paris.
And when I say ‘decimating’ I’m not being hyperbolic – the skateboarding on this clip is absolutely mind-bendingly good. Spot diversity, the number of countries involved, the variety of styles and types of skating covered: this really does have everything. In an age where skate videos are free and nobody pays for anything, I can honestly say that if Vans Europe decided to bring this out on a DVD, I’d buy it. This is how you make a team video people – Vans do it again. Book ended with full sections (more or less) from Martino Cattaneo and Victor Pellegrin (both of who absolutely go in) – regardless of whether you like beautiful Parisians in next level fits bouncing off walls, or you prefer sweaty moshers doing the unthinkable and nearly smashing into cars at 20 mph – you’re covered. Seriously cannot praise Vans Europe and co enough here. A masterpiece.

Some of these names might be new to some of you – some of them won’t be but for the sake of giving due props – here’s the roll call of names: Martino Cattaneo, Pepe Tirelli, Yellen Moens, Joseph Biais, Val Bauer, Oscar Candon, Mika Germond, Robin Bolian, Jan Hoffman, Hugo Westrelin, Roberto Aleman, Thanos Panou, Sam Partaix, Kris Vile, Dustin Dollin, Chris Pfanner, Daniel Lutheran, Axel Cruysberghs, Albert Nyberg, Alexey Krasniy and Victor Pellegrin.
Honestly – stop reading this and go watch it. And then watch it again.

Vans Europe

During the process of writing this it occurred to me that during the Covid-19 carnage we somehow forgot to post another Vans backed recent video masterpiece too – this time in the form of the first ever all-female Vans production, (that’s all female riders, filmer/editor and photographer). Shameful oversight on our behalf really. I’ll punch myself in the face as soon as I’ve finished typing – promise.
If you somehow managed to miss Credits – you can wise your selves up here.
Featuring the talents of Breana Geering, Una Farrar and Fabiano Delfino plus a host of other female rippers including our very own Helena Long. Go peep – don’t sleep.

Antihero skateboards do it again ‘Arbitrary Function’

Friday, January 3rd, 2020

All I wanted for Christmas was more Grant Taylor footage! Like a scabby Santa, Antihero skateboards came through and dropped a video bomb just in time for the festive season. Like their last full-lengther Destination Unknown, 2019’s Antihero skateboard’s release came in the form of a completely unheralded 15-minute banger.
In an age where people rarely go to the bog without teasing their toilet decision on Instagram for a month beforehand, it’s immensely refreshing to see that Antihero still have the bollocks to just drop a video as heavy as Implosionistic tendencies: Arbitrary Function with almost zero pre-hype.
The reason? Well, they just don’t need to hype it up first. It’s Antihero, it’s going to be sick!

Antihero skateboards do it again

Established in 1995 by early street skating pioneer and one time Santa Monica Airlines and Underworld Element pro skater Julien Stranger, Antihero skateboards appeared at a pivotal time in skateboarding’s development away from the inward-looking overly-technical skateboard scene of the early 1990’s.
Emerging from under the Deluxe umbrella, from the outset Antihero represented the raw underbelly of skateboarding and offered a pure vision of what being a skateboarder meant – regardless of trends or perceived rules.

Antihero skateboards do it again

Their inaugural video release ‘Fucktards‘ (1997) featuring the original team of Julien Stranger, Sean Young, John Cardiel, Eric J and Bob Burnquist firmly established an aesthetic that showcased every style of skating from vert to street and focused on the grimier aspects of the culture.
Anti Hero skateboards‘ instantly recognisable graphical output followed in the same vein with memorable graphics from the likes of Todd Francis (amongst many others) that celebrate the underbelly of the American dream and revel in the realities of street trash, political corruption, vagrancy and the darker side of life.

As the brand grew, the team changed but the underlying philosophy did not – hit the road and skate everything and anything that you encounter.
Antihero‘s video releases to date are numerous and include classics such as:
Fucktards (1997)
Cow (1998)
Two Songs (2002)
Cash Money Vagrant (2003)
Bonus Footage (2006)
and their full-length video Destination Unknown (2014) released in customary fashion with absolutely zero advertising beforehand to worldwide acclaim.

Antihero skateboards do it again

Here’s the timeless 1997 Fucktards in full just to remind you why this Antihero skateboards is now, and always will be, the shit.

When you’ve done that – take your fingers for a stroll over to our webstore and fill your boots as we’ve loads of Antihero merchandise online and ready to roll.

Natural Born Cooler – Vans

It’s here. The new video from Vans Europe Natural Born Cooler is finally gracing the internet. Back in 2016 Chris Pfanner got approached by Vans Europe to organize a skate trip with some of the European team riders. The boys hit Alicante, Vienna, Luxembourg, Cyprus and Sicily for this. And it’s a gooden’. Some mind blowing skateboarding going down in this video, so certainly worth 18 minutes of your sweet time.

Big shout out to Paul Labadie for bringing us the video along with Sebastien Raban on additional filming. Albert Nyberg and Nassim Guammaz sort of steal the show for me. This was Alberts first trip out with the Vans Europe team and he killed it!

Much love to Free Skate Mag for the collaboration between them and Natural Born Cooler. With the latest issue including a zine from the trip. Not much more left to say, go watch for yourself down below.
