New Chris Pfanner Antihero part with heavy cameos

Saturday, October 3rd, 2020

Let’s be honest, AH are pretty much untouchable when it comes to video releases and this here new Chris Pfanner Antihero part with heavy cameos from the crew only serves to reiterate this.
As ever, released with minimum Social Media circle jerking beforehand, this one fell straight into our collective eyeballs and delivered. It’s highly reassuring that in a skateboard universe where Nyjah can barely go for a shit without 85 repost Insta accounts frothing about it, Antihero just go skating, film it and then let us see it without all the algorithmic cock-teasing that everyone else seems to be addicted to.

In terms of what you get – eight and a half minutes of Pfanner doing what he does best: blasting full speed, leaping everything in his path and somehow making moustaches seem dope. No half-stepping here – this is all-killer from the now 36 year old beast himself. In amongst the Chris Pfanner footage you also get a brace of Frank Gerwer, Raney Beres, GT, recent Antihero recruit Victor Pellegrin and Daan Van Der Linden clips. I’m struggling to recommend this further than just describing who’s on it to be honest but if you need more, Daan’s cameo’s consists of three enders effectively and that’s only scratching the surface on what’s on this.
If you’re not already all about Antihero then there’s something wrong with you.
Tune in, turn on, tweak out.

New Chris Pfanner Antihero part

Although not directly connected to the above we’d be remiss if we didn’t raise our glasses in memory of DLXSF stable mate and skate industry legend Keith Hufnagel who sadly passed away in late September. It’s no exaggeration to say that Huf’s influence on skateboarding culture is almost unparalleled.
Not only did his style and approach to skateboarding help to redefine street skating, but his subsequent pioneering involvement in the skateboard industry helped to redefine skater-owned retail and soft goods models the world over. His early passing leaves a huge void at the centre of skate culture and we would like to offer our condolences and deepest sympathies to his family and friends across the globe. Rest in power.

Antihero skateboards do it again ‘Arbitrary Function’

Friday, January 3rd, 2020

All I wanted for Christmas was more Grant Taylor footage! Like a scabby Santa, Antihero skateboards came through and dropped a video bomb just in time for the festive season. Like their last full-lengther Destination Unknown, 2019’s Antihero skateboard’s release came in the form of a completely unheralded 15-minute banger.
In an age where people rarely go to the bog without teasing their toilet decision on Instagram for a month beforehand, it’s immensely refreshing to see that Antihero still have the bollocks to just drop a video as heavy as Implosionistic tendencies: Arbitrary Function with almost zero pre-hype.
The reason? Well, they just don’t need to hype it up first. It’s Antihero, it’s going to be sick!

Antihero skateboards do it again

Established in 1995 by early street skating pioneer and one time Santa Monica Airlines and Underworld Element pro skater Julien Stranger, Antihero skateboards appeared at a pivotal time in skateboarding’s development away from the inward-looking overly-technical skateboard scene of the early 1990’s.
Emerging from under the Deluxe umbrella, from the outset Antihero represented the raw underbelly of skateboarding and offered a pure vision of what being a skateboarder meant – regardless of trends or perceived rules.

Antihero skateboards do it again

Their inaugural video release ‘Fucktards‘ (1997) featuring the original team of Julien Stranger, Sean Young, John Cardiel, Eric J and Bob Burnquist firmly established an aesthetic that showcased every style of skating from vert to street and focused on the grimier aspects of the culture.
Anti Hero skateboards‘ instantly recognisable graphical output followed in the same vein with memorable graphics from the likes of Todd Francis (amongst many others) that celebrate the underbelly of the American dream and revel in the realities of street trash, political corruption, vagrancy and the darker side of life.

As the brand grew, the team changed but the underlying philosophy did not – hit the road and skate everything and anything that you encounter.
Antihero‘s video releases to date are numerous and include classics such as:
Fucktards (1997)
Cow (1998)
Two Songs (2002)
Cash Money Vagrant (2003)
Bonus Footage (2006)
and their full-length video Destination Unknown (2014) released in customary fashion with absolutely zero advertising beforehand to worldwide acclaim.

Antihero skateboards do it again

Here’s the timeless 1997 Fucktards in full just to remind you why this Antihero skateboards is now, and always will be, the shit.

When you’ve done that – take your fingers for a stroll over to our webstore and fill your boots as we’ve loads of Antihero merchandise online and ready to roll.

Nike SB Trust Fall by Jacob Harris, Ant Travis and Aaron Meza

Friday, July 5th, 2019

The latest piece from the Swoosh media machine premiered last week in London and as anticipated, Nike SB Trust Fall by Jacob Harris definitely lived up to the high expectations created by the roster of skaters and filmers involved. Clocking in at 23 minutes, Nike SB Trust Fall drops neatly into the category of a clip that would’ve constituted a full-length video release only a few years ago and delivers a package that crosses various boundaries within the immense Nike SB team universe.
Obviously we’re stoked to see fellow Brits Casper Brooker and Kyron Davis get some heavy repping in this one and both of them more than come through with serious skating up to par with the offerings of the various other Swoosh luminaries featured.

Part window into some of the (globally at least) lesser known members of the Swoosh army, part hype for the tenth anniversary of the iconic Janoski shoe – Trust Fall is one of those clips not hobbled by the inevitably throw away nature of Internet content. This is obviously due to the skating featured, but also definitely down to the calibre of filmers and editors involved too, not to mention a very diverse and, some might say, unexpected soundtrack given the fact that it’s a Nike SB piece.

Atlantic Drift‘s maestro Jacob Harris filmed the majority of it, with US based support from Ant Travis, along with contributions from Nike SB core crew mainstay Johnny Wilson so it’s low on the over-rinsed handrail NBD’s and Sci-Fi camera set ups and very high on the crusty spots/spontaneous street vibes. Additionally, with Crailtap/FTC/Viceland alumni Aaron Meza pitching in as overall project lead, Trust Fall has a proper sense of cohesion often missing from these montage-heavy shoe brand pieces.

(If you’re not sure who Aaron Meza is, then go watch the FTC video Penal Code 100a right now for an introduction to just one of the numerous iconic 90’s skate video that Mr Meza has been responsible for over the last three decades.)

Standouts for us were Casper’s ridiculously popped 360 flip in the line, Kyron’s back up varial heel (complete with Mike Arnold champagne BGP’s) and Sean Malto‘s unthinkably impossible nollie flip over the Meanwhile 2 Gonz Gap. With that said – those are just three of the bangers lurking within this bastard so, if you haven’t watched it already – do so now. If you need further convincing, how does this line up sound?
Blake Carpenter, Daan Van Der Linden, Donovon Piscopo, Kyron Davis, Caleb Barnett, Casper Brooker, Karsten Kleppan, Cyrus Bennett, Max Palmer, Sean Malto, Andrew Wilson, Nik Stain and Stefan Janoski.
Heavy, heavy business…Nike SB Trust Fall is going to be on repeat for us for a while.

If you fancy finding out more regarding the filming and editing process, and reading about some of the behind-the-scenes stories related to the making of this one, then head over to the Free Mag site and read Ryan Gray’s interview with Casper Brooker and Jacob Harris that dropped on Monday.
Click the Sam Ashley photo below to peep that.

Now if all those long lens zoom-ins have whet your appetite for some new creps then we suggest that you head over to the Black Sheep store front and pick up some Nike SB kicks – we’ve loads on sale right now, including various iterations of the decade old Janoski shoe that’s being celebrated in the clip you’ve just watched.

Nike Sb – Daan Van Der Linden

Nike Sb – Daan Van Der Linden

Well the skateboard rumor mill has been bubbling away on this one for a while now. And as the dust settles and when all’s said and done Daan Van Der Linden chooses the Swoosh to leave his long time home of Vans for Nike Sb.

You can only imagine what the Slap forums (other skateboard forums are available) bandwidth is like on this one as every man and his dog will have an opinion. Personally for me (and that stands for sod all) it boils down to shoes to put on his feet along with paying some bills plus having a blast along the way. Remember all footwear brands whether sports giants, part of huge corporations or legitimately skater owned they are all actual “business’s” who have riders to endorse products to try sell more products, end of.

The bit that works great for us skateboarders is that we reap the benefits from these brands pushing riders in our face in terms of coverage. Imagine if Daan Van Der Linden only ever stayed skating down his local car-park and he was never given the opportunity to skate the best spots in the World for his and our entertainment…

Well, form your own opinion but I like how skaters at the top of their game can get payed ‘real’ money nowadays. It’s been said before but look at footballers, basketball players etc… them guys seriously will never work a real job after their career and why shouldn’t it be so for skateboarders who could have life ending (never mind career) injuries at any given moment. Hats off to any skaters getting paid and being given the opportunity to progress what we all love doing. Without this progression of skateboarding we’ll never get to see where this crazy ride will take us next.

Anyway, enough of the ramblings of an old man! Get your view on below as Daan Van Der Linden is seriously one of the best out there right now. Be sure to expect more Daan / Nike Sb style footage forthcoming in the very near future.

Bru-Ray: Best of Daan Van Der Linden

Tuesday, December 13th, 2016

Daan Van Der Linden has had one hell of a year, he went from getting on the Vans global team in January to joining the pro ranks for Antihero in August. In between all that, he’s had some significant footage in Antihero’s ‘Chestnut Hill’ and Volcom’s ‘Holy Stokes’ videos, both of which were released over the summer period. Now, as this year is coming to a close, Thrasher / P-Stone have lumped together eight minutes of Daans best footage and it does not disappoint, it puts in to perspective how gnarly his skating really is. Get hyped for the destruction that he will come up with in the coming year.
