Emerica skate shoes latest video ‘Green’

Sunday, February 23rd, 2020

Emerica skate shoes latest video ‘Green’ is here and it’s an amazing 18 minutes of the traditional, progressive street-hammering we’ve all come to expect from the brand.
Emerica is one of the stalwarts of the skater-owned shoe universe: the brand that gave us epoch-forming video sections from the likes of Andrew Reynolds, Heath Kirchart and Ed Templeton to name but a few of the greats who have at one point laced up signature Emerica shoes. Over the last few years the brand has suffered the loss of a few of its biggest names – Heath Kirchart to retirement, Ed Templeton to vegan ice cream and creepy pier photography, Jerry Hsu to the world of Sci Fi and Fantasy and, most recent and most notably, long time flagship rider Andrew Reynolds shifting over to an as yet not entirely explained in full deal with Vans.

The Emericans have taken it on the chin and have come back swinging with this latest 18 minute online follow up to the equally incredible Made Chapter 2 (their last full-length release), which you can see below.
Newest recruits Dakota Servold and Erick Winkowski absolutely kill it, as do Emerica long-servers Figgy, Colin Provost, Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long and various others. The curtains belong to Deathwish’s own recently sober leader of farm-hand inspired street wear and by God, does John Dickson come through. For such a beefy dude, his finesse is untouchable and despite being dressed like Lenny from Of Mice and Men, I’d trust him to pet my new puppy, no problem.
As always with Emerica – this is straight forward, zero gimmicks skateboarding.

Andrew Reynolds – Made Chapter 2 B-Sides

Saturday, November 5th, 2016

Six minutes of shredding from Andrew Reynolds’ Emerica Made Chapter 2 B-sides. He said that he didn’t expect to top his previous parts but the section that he has delivered showcases his evolution as a skater without understating his sheer ability and creativity. Just think about this for a moment, he won Thrasher’s SOTY back in 1998 and is still at the top of his game to this day. Whether its the fountain of youth or just the desired drive just to keep going Reynolds always delivers. We all know what he has accomplished over the years but this is something different in his own unique way, the Boss is the Boss for a reason.

Bryan Herman – Made Chapter 2 B-Sides

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016

Thrasher have continued with releasing the B-Sides to Emerica’s Made Chapter 2. This time around it is the turn of Bryan Herman – or Herm Dog as he’s been known. This seven minutes worth of footage doesn’t get much better as everything he seems to do on a skateboard is super stylish. Expect some serious alternative angles, some harsh slams, outtakes from that ender and a battle with a hardflip back tail that didn’t make it into the final cut. Also watch out for the Lil Wayne cameo in there giving Herman some serious props.

Spanky – Made Chapter 2 B-Sides

Tuesday, October 25th, 2016

A few years ago Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long disappeared from the Baker and Emerica rosters. Since then, while filming for Made Chapter 2 – a video he thought he would have no part in, got his pro board back on Baker Skateboards. Made chapter 2 was one the biggest videos of the year and now the B-Sides are doing the rounds. The 11 minutes of footage that was posted by Thrasher Magazine shows how Spanky’s section came together. Some people have said this is his come back part but he never really fully went away, lets just say its his resurgence. After years in the skateboarding spotlight he’s ripping more than ever.

Andrew Reynolds – Life On Video

Tuesday, October 11th, 2016

Andrew Reynolds – The Boss – A well deserved nickname because ..well..he is the boss! If you ask me he has never put out any weak footage and has spent pretty much the majority of his skateboarding life in front of a lens or camera. It’s hard to pick just which Reynolds section is your favorite, Birdhouse’s The End, Baker 2G, Stay Gold or most recently Emerica Made Chapter 2 just to name a few, you can see how hard it is to pick. The Berrics has now continued its Life On Video feature with the man himself, giving a historic look over the years from past to present, it is deep and interesting in equal measure so take some time out and hear from the Boss himself.

Justin ‘Figgy’ Figueroa – ‘MADE Chapter Two’ Interview

Friday, October 7th, 2016

Justin Figgy Figueroa, Emerica MADE Chapter Two Interview Header, Black Sheep Skate Store Blog

We had a quick chat with Justin Figueroa on the morning after the London premiere of MADE Chapter Two. You might have heard Figgy takes the last part of the video (if not, sorry for the spoiler) and he definitely worked it for. Handrails get chomped, skate stoppers get powered through and this is one skateboarder who can seriously take a slam. Read on a for few words about filming (and repeatadly injuring himself) for the Emerica video…

How did the LA premiere of MADE compare to last night?

They were both firing off. LA was cool just because I was sitting with all my friends… and right after my part Collin (Provost) ripped my chair out from under me, flat backed me and started breaking all the chairs in sight. So, LA probably won on that side of things…

Did you already know that you were going to have last part of the video and is it nerve racking watching yourself at those screenings?

Not before the LA premiere. Yeah, from here on out I think I’m gonna watch the first ten minutes and then just go across the street to a bar, (laughs).

So it doesn’t get any easier with each viewing?

No, not at all. It gets weirder, for sure. I think everyone always wishes that they were better at skating and their shit was better. I feel like I worked fucking hard though.

You’ve had a hard time with your ankle while working on this project, right?

Yeah and it took a long time to recover, I was out for like a year. I blew it out once and I think I was just coming back from that one. Started skating for like three months then I did it again and I was out for eight months. It’s endless, there’s always some injury. Sometimes it even feels like a random injury no-one else has to deal with.

Your pro shoe came out during all this, so I guess the pressure was on as soon as you could skate again?

That was in the middle of filming for this video. I came back and just started skating my neck off. It’s hard tying to muscle shit out when you’re just out of shape from not being able to skate which is the most frustrating shit ever. It takes a long time to get your muscle and confidence back.

It seems like you’ve been on the warpath. That footage of you smashing into the light box was pretty heavy…

Now that I look back it feels like it. Those lights stick out so fucking far from the ledge and to even skate it you have to ollie over the first one. It was kind of a freak accident – I just stuck, I couldn’t see what was happening and then before I knew it I smashed right into it. At first it hurt real bad but I didn’t think I needed to go to the hospital. I was just like, “Ah, I’m over it dude.” No-one likes going to the hospital, it’s the worse thing ever but after ten minutes (Jon) Miner is telling me to go. We watched the footage and went in. There was a a bunch of broken ribs and I was bleeding inside so I had to stay in there a couple of days and get transferred to another hospital.

What about the injuries you’ve had while filming for this?

Dislocated elbow, I broke my thumb, the two ankle surgeries… Just random shit that I’m gonna remember after this interview is done, (laughs).

With all that in mind, how relieving is it to have MADE finished?

Surprisingly, now that it’s over I definitely feel the best I have ever felt after a video part. I think that because before the last two months of filming I broke my ribs and couldn’t skate for a month and only had a month skating after that. Honestly, compared to the way I felt after Bake And Destroy [2012], that was when all my ankle shit started, and Stay Gold [2010], I couldn’t skate for like three months after that – but now I feel like I’m good to go. I mean I’m out of shape right now, I haven’t really skated that much since we finished the video.

Have you got anything you’re going to be filming for next?

Now it’s just diving into Baker 4. It hasn’t been announced but Andrew (Reynolds) said let’s give it two years. We got this one. I swear that compared to filming for the Emerica videos the Baker videos are… For the Emerica videos I feel like I set out for a trick and just suffer for it. The Baker videos are more like improv, you just go out and skating and get whatever comes. I’m not just trying to go do something gnarly. I wish it wasn’t like that but I think I put that pressure on myself. I wish I could go out with Emerica and just flow and get shit easily but it’s so fucking hard. Nothing is easy for me, I feel like I have to work super fucking hard.

I think you can see that in the video, especially with the footage of those slams…

I think that’s just honest of the way I skate in general. I feel bad for filmers and photographers who have to go out and skate with me because it takes forever and I’m just throwing temper tantrums and getting all mad, (laughs).

What does the name MADE mean to you regarding Emerica?

I think a lot of the dudes on Emerica have been around for a long time and people still wanna see stuff from them. People just want to see parts from all of the old legends and I feel like everyone in MADE, other than (Jon) Dickson, has grown up on this shit. I grew up buying Emerica’s so I think it totally applies to the way I look at Emerica. I’ve been involved with it my whole life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Emerica – MADE Chapter 2 Trailer

Monday, July 11th, 2016

It has been about three years since Emerica started their MADE Chapter series. The first chapter, released in 2013 featured Leo Romero, Brandon Westgate, Colin Provost and a surprising part from Jeremy Leabres. Now, the official trailer for MADE Chapter 2 has been published online with Jerry Hsu giving us the lowdown on what to expect and how excited he is about the project. Although there has been no official release date yet, we can probably expect it in the later end of 2016. Speaking on the Shelter Show podcast this week Jerry said “October-November-ish. September-October-November. Something like that.” Then he gave us insight who’s going to be featured in this installment, “That’s gonna be Andrew [Reynolds], [Bryan] Herman, Spanky, Figgy, and then myself. And then, like, everyone else will be in the video—they’ll just be in there. Everyone on the team will be in the video, but those guys will have parts.”

Click play below and get hyped because MADE Chapter 2 is most certainly going to be worth the wait.
