Black Sheep family member Jiri Bulin for Piilgrim clothing

Wednesday, July 1st, 2020

Stoked on this for all kinds of reasons but not least as it sees Black Sheep family member Jiri Bulin take the curtains. ‘Chrysalis’ is the suitably psychedelic latest release from Mark Kendrick’s ethically-minded clothing brand Piilgrim. For those of you who don’t recognise Mark’s name – he’s been a face on the UK skate scene for many years, as both a ripper in his own right and the man behind the camera.
Piilgrim’s mission statement is to create clothing using ethical processes and to attempt to reduce waste involved to as close to zero as possible. Highly commendable stuff indeed.

For a more in-depth insight into Piilgrim and Mark Kendrick’s back catalogue of video produce to date – hit the link earlier in this sentence and read the interview that Jenkem Mag did to coincide with their online premiere of Chrysalis back in the darker depth of the Covid-19 lock down era.

Anyhow, onto the meat of this particular sandwich, (vegan meat substitute that is obviously). Chrysalis serves up a veritable smorgasbord of North West related rippers including Black Sheep family member Jiri Bulin, plus the likes of Keanu Robson, Zach Riley, Ricky Davidson, Jeremy Jones, UK legend Franklin Stephens plus recent US additions Corey Duffel and Pat Burke. The whole thing is absolutely banging from start to finish and all involved deserve hearty back slaps. If you missed the online premiere – now’s the time to wise your eyes up. Go peep.

In related Jiri Bulin news, our very own Czech Manc, his lovely family and an assortment of local heroes have also been hard at work during lock down creating DIY gold in otherwise unused space. If you’re keen to get involved with that project, either by donating funds, materials or your labour then go check out the Instagram account @beesidediy and/or sling them some funds through their Go Fund Me here.

Jiri is sponsored by Black Sheep, Toy Machine, Pig Wheels, Etnies, Theeve trucks and Piilgrim clothing.

Black Sheep family in Isaac Wilkinson Isolation clip

Tuesday, April 14th, 2020

Heavy representation here with a brace of the Black Sheep family in Isaac Wilkinson‘s Isolation clip.
Released last week, this is big man’s donation to the cause with a steady four minutes and fourteen seconds of unseen Manchester ripping. Not entirely sure when Isaac filmed this but presumably during the period between releasing his 2016 independent skate video ‘O-One’Fuckin’-6-One‘ and his more recent ascension into the London ranks of camera-wielding media nodes.
For any of you unaware of Isaac Wilkinson’s past record in skate video-making, you can fill in any gaps that you might have here via a fairly extensive interview with the man himself conducted back in 2016.

Isaac’s latest, whilst billed as little more than an airing of some unused footage, is, in actuality, pretty much a full length banger of a clip featuring Black Sheep family heads Eddie Belvedere, Harry Lintell, Jiri Bulin, Ricky Davidson, Seb Batty, Lucien Costello and Sam Mason. Isaac’s probably just being modest by describing it as a clearing out of the hard drives given that he’s now big-manned it to London levels of kneeling in piss filming people eating teacakes or whatever it is that he’s currently engaged in. Nevertheless, this is a straight up banger and more than deserving of your time. Isaac is and forever will be a strong member of the Black Sheep family, whether he’s living in that London or not.

As we’ve touched on the topic in this here post and because, let’s face it – any distraction from being locked in the house is good enough right now: why not remind yourselves of just how banging Isaac’s 2016 Manchester video still is by engaging eyeballs below?

First up is new dad and crust DIY supremo Jiri Bulin’s section from said video.

Following that you’ve got Seb Batty’s section to enjoy.

Jump on the link here for our YouTube channel to peep the rest, plus a bunch of other archive content that we’ve uploaded over the years. If nothing else, it’ll keep you awake for a few more hours.

Lastly, but not least – big love to all our customers who have continued to stand by us and kept the orders flowing in during the lockdown. We’ve got whatever it is you need and we’re on it daily, so if you need anything – you know where to come. You are all Black Sheep family.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2017

Manchester-turned-London lens wielder, Mark Kendrick, just released the first visual treat from his new apparel brand, Piilgrim – and what a treat it is.

Vans Shop Riot – The Story So Far

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

Vans have put together footage from the Vans Shop Riot series from all the countries that have been involved so far, including a small selection of clips from our own UK qualifiers at Nottingham’s Flo Skatepark in which the Black Sheep boys Rob Smith, Jiri Bulin and Jordan Sharkey came through and claimed first place….again, good work lads! That means they join the winners from The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Czech Republic, Germany/Austria, Russia and France at the finals over in Lisbon, Portugal at Cascais Skatepark from the 18th to 20th September. There are five countries who are still yet to host their series events so keep an eye out for them. From the edit below we can see that this year has been a real battlefield all over Europe with teams and individuals stepping up and taking the standard of skating to the next level. No doubt that Rob, Sharkey and Jiri will be well up for it in September but then again so will all the rest of the teams, there can only be one winner but I know who I’m putting my money on! More info and build up nearer the event via the blog and our social media outlets.

Vans Shop Riot Winners

Thursday, June 23rd, 2016

For the seventh time we have won the infamous Vans Shop Riot competition winning a place into the European Finals in Portugal this September, where we’ll go head-to-head with other top stores from across the continent. Although winning that one too won’t be a problem as we’ve already managed to bag 1st place in the European competition twice before. It’s just too easy, especially when you have the likes of Jordan Sharkey, Jiri Bulin and Rob Smith as your team. I mean we have got all aspects covered like Rob jumping off anything on offer, the incredible consistent skating that Jordan produces then the mind boggling technical ability that Jiri has, unstoppable. We are really proud to have won the UK Shop Riot, it’s just the European one that needs to be brought back to Manchester. Good work guys and bring that trophy home.

Jiri ‘George’ Bulin For Toy Machine

Friday, February 26th, 2016

A number of years ago the people of Greater Manchester were graced with a European hippy from Czech Republic. This was all due to our stock keeper Stu Reynolds because he paid a visit to Prague in Czech and was greeted by an old friend Marcel and a young lad Jiri, aka George. From there the guys spent 5 days smashing various spots and making the most of the cheap lager on offer. On the last day, after an eventful trip, Stu mentioned to George that if he ever wanted to come to England he has a place waiting for him at his. From there George turned up 3 months later and hasn’t turned back since. It’s pretty obvious to the local Manchester shredders, who I’m sure will agree that has most definitely proved himself in the Manchester scene. Not that anyone needs to prove themselves, he’s just been a pleasure to have on our streets. He has even accumulated a fluent Mancunian accent too aha. Anyway, over the years we have seen a huge progression in George’s skating/style. He is a footage machine and is one of the most productive skaters from Manchester at this minute. It has payed off too, as I can now announce our shop rider, Czech legend and great friend has bagged himself a spot on the UK Toy Machine team. He will also be riding Pig Wheels from now on. Good work George! It wasn’t a surprise really as the welcome edit above is bloody brilliant.

Keep up with George on Instagram.

Rob-Smith-tail-drop-ride-channel-open-edit-black-sheep

For nearly a year now the Ride Channel have been posting a series of edits up on their site called the ‘Open’ edits. These clips are from shops not just in the USA but from all around the world. The idea was to show the independent shops that support skateboarding in their community and also the riders and staff that make these shops the backbone of the skateboard scene, and yes you guessed it, it was our turn for the Ride Channel Open edit ! Thanks to the camera and editing skills of Mr Phil Harvey, he has treated us to nearly four minutes of Black Sheep action! Jiri Bulin kicks things off with some raw street hammers before Lewis Threadgold shows us how to properly do a load of wallie and wall ride variations! Josh Bentley mixes old spots with new, a sick line at Manchester’s newest DIY spot and a huck down the infamous grizzly stairs. Stu Reynolds after that proves that 40 is the new 20, then Lucien Costello shows us the talents of Manchester youth on the rise! Seb Batty makes light work of one of the highest ledges in town! Nick Stannerz and Sexual Stu keep the mosh alive with a quick line each on urbis.  Rikk Fields throws some of his footage in from his recent exploits in Hong Kong while Jake Potts keeps it local with an added Barcelona banger! Badman Barrett gets tech at Stockport’s finest ledge haven, then there’s strictly business as Reiss Johnson and Andy Scott take it to the vert! Harry Lintell comes through with even more mesmerizing street antics before Eddie Belvedere takes on some Cornish concrete! Rob Smith ends the show in fine fashion, gnarly drop ins, street lines and flying high at Stockwell! Big thanks to Phil Harvey for putting it together, Rybo, Armani Rochford and Isaac Wilkinson for additional filming. Big shout out to MC DRS for providing the soundtrack and also to the Ride Channel for having us on! So what you waiting for click play now!

Element Make It Count Uk 2015 Edit

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

Element_Make_It_Count_Header_

A couple of Saturdays ago on the 9th of May, Manchester’s own pump cage was the place to host this years Element Make It Count competition. It’s a great competition that has been running for some years now and always seems to bring out the best in everybody that attends, from people helping out, to the entering process ( one canned food item was required for entry and all food items were donated to local food banks) and to the overall standard of skating! The competition is set out all over the world to see the latest talents that skateboarding has to offer and for Element it also spreads its word  and belief of social awareness and positivity. Once again there was a superb turn out ( like there always is for events here in Manchester! ) and throughout the three different age categories the skating was just as impressive! A big shout out to everyone who turned up, took part, helped out and made the day as good as it was!

Biggest congratulations go to our very own Jiri “George” Bulin who smashed it all day and was crowned overall winner at the end! Bagging himself a trip to Italy and a spot in the European finals for the chance to go to California to compete for Element sponsorship at Nyjah’s park!  Well done pal and good luck!
