Landscape skateboards Seasons video - goodbye Landscape landscape-seasons

With this week’s release of the latest Landscape skateboards Seasons video over on the Vague Mag site, came the sad news that this UK mainstay brand would be closing its doors for good.
Originally emerging from the ashes of the short-lived Fos brand Organic Skateboards that preceded it (see below for their only video release as Organic from the masterful ‘First Broadcast), Landscape Skateboards was officially announced back in 2003 with the release of their first full-length VHS ‘Portraits’.
Filmed and edited by the much missed Chris Massey, Portraits is rightly hailed as a UK classic. Featuring the original Landscape team of Olly Todd, Joel Curtis, Daniel ‘Snowy’ Kinloch and Toby Shuall, Massey’s premier Landscape release set the tone of the brand from the outset with a firm adherence to the ‘less is more’ principle and a focus on gimmick-free, stylish street skating.

Over the years since its foundation, many things changed at Landscape skateboards – team riders left, new riders joined and two other full length videos were released (see below), along with numerous tour clips and mag articles but the central philosophy behind Landscape always remained the same.

More recently, Landscape earned itself the moniker of ‘Mancscape’ due to the heavy preponderance of Mancunian based riders, including our very own Black Sheep family member Nick Stansfield and the one-man media enterprise that is Joe Gavin, to name just a few. This local connection adds even more poignancy to the news that Landscape is to join the many other now defunct UK brands in purgatory but its legacy will live on. And what better way to say goodbye than with a banger like this one?

Featuring parts from all the current team riders and a lovely dedication to Chris Barrett at the end (along with Chris Massey and Ben Raemers) – Joe Gavin and the boys have done themselves proud here and left the building on a highnote, or to quote the venerable Slap Forum – “They’ve taken the Heath exit…”

Fans of the brand who are keen to get their hands on some Landscape wood for the wall whilst they still can should direct themselves over to our webstore and pick up a Nick Stansfield pro deck, or even better, one of Landscape’s special Chris Barrett memorial boards which we still have in stock.
Don’t sleep though because when they’re gone, they’re gone and there will be no more restocks for obvious reasons.

We’re sad to see such a strong voice of the UK skateboard scene disappear but such is the nature of the over-saturated skateboard brand market these days. Any of you with an interest in UK skate brand history are advised to have a look at this heritage article cataloguing some of the other UK brands that have left the building over the last ten years or so.

Goodbye Landscape – you will be missed.
Now, why not treat your eyes to some archive Lanners video below, before you go drop some nuggets and pick yourselves up a piece of UK skate history?

Jeremy Jones – Landscape Skateboards welcome clip

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Landscape Skateboards recently added none other than Jeremy Jones to the team. Jeremy Jones is a skateboard shredder who is currently situated down in the BIG SMOKE, London. He has been a familiar face in UK skateboarding for a long time now and considering he’s a ripper it was about time a decent board company started to give this guy some wood. In connection with him making it onto the team he joined forces with filmer Austin Bristow and managed to film a welcome clip at one of London’s most iconic skate spots, Southbank. It is also heart warming seeing an edit based around this legendary spot as over the past few years the good people at LLSB (Long Live Southbank) have grafted their hearts out to try and keep this place alive because it was pretty certain that it could have been demolished. Praise the LORD!

Also whilst we are on the topic of Landscape Skateboards, it may not be any new news but our very own Nick Stannerz Tretch Stansfield has turned PRO and you can expect to see his board on sale here very soon. If you want to make sure you can grab one before they sell out (which is inevitable) then PRE-ORDER yours right here…

Daniel ‘Snowy’ Kinloch – Landscape Remix

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016

For those of you who didn’t know, Daniel ‘Snowy’ Kinloch was the reason Fos decided to start a small British company some thirteen years ago. Snowy didn’t really fit the whole Heroin vibe going on so Fos came up with the idea to create Landscape Skateboards. Through the years gone by Snowy has continually smashed it , travelling all over to log clips for videos like Portraits, Horizons and a number of other projects. It’s a real shame but Snowy has decided to hang up his pro boots and move on, Landscape are sending a ‘ good luck our kid’ remix edit of some of Snowy’s archive footage to remind you how hard he shreds. Looks like Landcape will be needing a new pro ?!?!?!

Landscape Forever

Monday, April 4th, 2016

The latest edit from Landscape Skateboards – Landscape Forever – has hit the internet and is a ten minute long mix tape with footage taken from Joe Gavin’s Madchester Mondays series. He has put the footage together into one whole edit which is soundtracked by the infamous RZA. The edit features Joe Gavin, Keanu Robson, Ash Hall, Jed Coldwell, Jin Shimizu, Snowy and our very own Black Sheep representative Nick Stansfield.

‘Escapes’ by Landscape Skateboards

Wednesday, December 30th, 2015

LANDSCAPE SKATEBOARDS – ESCAPES from Landscape Skateboards on Vimeo.

During the festive holidays we saw Landscape Skateboards release their newest edit ‘Escapes’. Filmed in various locations throughout Europe such as London, Paris, Portugal, Barcelona, Sheffield and Manchester it is nothing but spectacular. Just what was needed on Boxing day when lounging around after the amount of booze/food consumed the previous day. A lovely unexpected surprise, especially because our very own team rider Nick ‘Stannerz’ Stansfield closes the show with some lovely stunts. Not only was it Stannerz who smashed it but also Ash Hall, Snowy, Keanu Robson, Joe Gavin and Jethro Coldwell were nothing but mind blowing. Landscape need to produce more edits as this one was on fire. Maybe because it was filmed and edited by Sean Lomax who is killing it in the film making game. The promo is dedicated to Chris Massey who sadly passed away recently, without him Landscape wouldn’t be the same, so sit back, raise a glass for Massey and enjoy. For those that don’t know who Massey was, he iss the legend who made Portraits, Landscape’s first ever video that is still powerful to this day! RIP MASSEY!

Some Must See Sections

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

As myself (Stannerz) and Sexual Stu were working in the notorious new Black Sheep Store the other weekend we were surrounded by a load of skate rats asking every question under the sun. So we decided to ask a few back which were….

Who had, in your opinion, the best section in Flip Sorry?

To the response that shocked us into an early grave….

What’s Flip Sorry?

At this point we were losing faith in the skate youth but we kept concentration and thought alright, you may have missed that one but you’ve heard of Arto Saari, Tom Penny, Rune Glifberg etc right?

Another shocking response….

No never, who are they?

From this I thought it would be compulsory to post a few must see sections that some of you may never have set eyes on and should’ve by now…..

To start of with and finally put an end to this misery we have Tom Penny and Arto’s section from Flip Skateboards ‘Sorry’ that was released in 2002. They’re are some other incredible sections in this video so if you can, find the full length feature online. The sequel was ‘Really Sorry’ and finally ‘Extremely Sorry’ even later in life. All a must see!

Next we have Eric Koston’s section from the infamous ‘Yeah Right’. Created by Girl Skateboards in 2003. It was for the time and even now a mind blowing video. Watch Koston’s first line and I’m pretty sure you’ll be hooked!

Transwold also in 2003 released Free Your Mind. A good year for skateboarding as this is yet another incredible video. We have Dan Drehobl’s part here who is a transition king but don’t stop there as the rest of the video is really worth watching.

Not long after in 2004 Chocolate skateboards released the Hot Chocolate Tour. It isn’t just amazing skating that is featured but also interviews with the team. Gives you a feel for what life on the road would be like when touring on skate trips. It was really hard to choose from this one but I went with Mike York since he’s not only a stylish skater but also a really nice dude.

Heath Kirchart.

and another!

Jason Dill is one of the best. His part in Habitat’s Mosaic, too good! Song choice on point, skating is next level. You’d be stupid not to appreciate this section.

Stevie Williams in The DC Video. One of the biggest and best G’s to ever step foot on a board. Big poppa!

Got to appreciate a vert section too and why not Bob Burnquist’s part from Es ‘Menikmati’ which was released in 2000. Bob’s a switch killer so see if you can figure out what stance he actually is from this part, you’ll struggle.

So far the sections have been from over the seas but don’t forget the UK/Europe has also seen some incredible shredders put out parts. Here’s a few from our roots that is gritty UK skateboarding. Starting with Scotland’s John Rattray, this dude is nothing but unstoppable.

Over the years Blueprint have brought out plenty of really powerful DVDs. There was ‘Waiting For The World’, ‘Lost and Found’, ‘Make Friends With The Colour Blue’ but my favorite of all time has to be First Broadcast. When I first set eyes on this video I was out skating the streets in a matter of seconds after watching it. Maybe because it was easier to relate to the gritty spots the UK has to offer that are right on our door step. Nick Jensen steals the show and due too the recent Isle Skateboards ‘Vase’ video that will soon be on sale in store I thought it makes sense to show this section.

Finally to finish off we have my favorite section of all time and that’s Snowy’s from Landscape’s Portraits. It also has a powerful song choice with Manchester’s Stone Roses ‘Elephant Stone’. It was filmed and edited by one of skateboarding’s best filmmaker’s Mr Christopher James Massey. Chris sadly passed away recently, such sad news but he left us with many memories including this masterpiece that is ‘Portraits’.

RIP CHRIS MASSEY!!!

Thank you for watching. There are many more sections that are not included as the list goes on but here’s a good few to get you started. Skateboarding is the best and it’s a real privilege to be part of something so great. Peace.
