It is a pleasure to share this new Lewis Threadgold ‘Hometown Lurking’ part with you guys. For those that don’t know, Lewis is often located down at Manchester’s Pump-Cage where he tears it up on the regular. But now thanks to this new video we can see him showcasing skills on the rough and rugged spots that the UK has on offer. Spots that may not have been seen before on the many edits that pop up on all kinds of social media. This is a full part, never been seen before and it’s great to have a section from one of the Black Sheep Family members that we can showcase to you all. Enjoy…!

Josh Bentley’s ‘May Be Goth’ Part

Wednesday, June 15th, 2016

When Josh Bentley isn’t consuming the numerous tins of baked beans in his student house in South Manchester, he is out skating and producing parts with his good friend and film maker Sam Frost. This latest part that he has to offer is ‘May Be Goth’ and it is the second edition after Sam’s first video ‘Maybelol’. ‘Maybelol’ for those that didn’t witness was nothing but spectacular and it combined good times with raw skating and a little humor. I mean we can all appreciate that can’t we because no point in being serious your whole life. This second part ‘May Be Goth’ that Josh has managed to produce despite having a full time job as a student is also incredible. He is a quirky hippy jumping northern lad and we are pleased to showcase his newest part for all you guys to see, good work Josh.

New ‘Maybelol’ Manchester Scene Video

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

Whats the main reason you end up picking up a skateboard? To have fun! This is exactly what Sam Frost and his crew are doing, no serious stresses, just good times with your mates! Over the past year or so Sam has been documenting all the rad and fun stuff him and his crew have been up to!
Sam has put together a new Manchester scene video called ‘Maybelol’. It’s all about  going out with your mates shredding various North Western locations. You can expect to find a lot of quirky skating including plenty of wallrides/no complys on various spots you wouldn’t think possible. Our Black Sheep lurker/rider Josh Bentley opens the show with a powerful section leading into many more parts from such familiar faces in the Manchester skate scene. Our shop mosher Sexual Stu gets gnarly, Seb Batty gets fresh with loads more on a general hype! Guarantee you’ll be left in stitches from laughter but also hyped to go and shred some local spots in an unfamiliar way. Maybelol is 100% worth a watch… good work dudes!

Stannerz Hassles Fos

Friday, March 20th, 2015

Instead of writing about the top dogger Fos, we thought it would mint if we got our mate Stannerz to ask him a few random questions. Makes sense since he rides for one of Fos’s companies Landscape Skateboards. You may not already know this as well but Fos was kind enough to design our infamous ‘stacked’ Black Sheep Logo which can be seen all over the streets of Manchester. Have a read below to see what happened…

So then Fos, Tell me a little about yourself.

I was born in Bury and grew up in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, went to art College in Burnley, then ended up moving to London when I was 20, I went to Goldsmiths college down there and ended up staying down after I graduated. I got a job at the Slam Warehouse in 1997, I started a Skateboard company called Heroin in 1998, then another called Landscape in 2003. I’m the art director for Altamont apparel and Baker skateboards, I moved to Los Angeles in 2011.

What are your strengths?

Drawing. Getting the job done, having a good work ethic.

What are your weaknesses?

Not knowing when to quit. Organization, paperwork.

Which would you pick up first a scooter or a pair of blades?

Ugh, a scooter cos I can throw the thing away, blades would be attached to you.

Why did you choose this industry?

My old man wanted me to be a plumber or an electrician or something, I was only ever interested in art and skateboarding, so it was natural that I’d end up in this industry. My first skateboard graphics were for Toy Machine in 1997.

What do you know about this industry?

That its very small, its run by about 8 people in the UK and 20 people in the USA. Its similar to those other industries like if you start a record shop or book shop, there’s no money in it really. Everyone wants to open a skate shop or run a board company, but its very difficult to make money that way. If you sell septic tanks or washing machines, or something completely unglamorous that nobody wants to do you’ll totally clear up.

If you could bring something to the table what would it be?

I like to think that I have. When I was at Slam most of the UK skaters were on flow deals from US companies, there were very few UK companies at the time, and I definitely didn’t fit into what most of them were doing, so I started Heroin, and it gave people a platform to make a name for themselves.

And whatever era of Heroin you look at, be it the graphics or the riders, Snowy’s first part in Good Shit, a Chris Pulman part, a full Howard Cooke part in LFA, Colin Fiske, Rogie, Gou Miyagi, Deer Man of Dark Woods, its always tried to bring something new to the table rather than copy anyone else.

If you were at a business lunch and you ordered a steak and they brought you a quorn slab, what would you do?

Throw it out the window.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

What fucking spare time? Geez, I don’t have too much of that anymore. I got married a couple of years ago, so I kick it with my missus. We like to go and shoot guns at the gun range. Just trying to keep busy and find time to skate still really though.

What kind of car do you drive?

A 1974 Camaro. Thing is a Beast! I didn’t move to LA to drive a ford Fiesta.

If you were to wear high heels or Heely’s for the rest of your life which would you choose?

Heelys I guess. You can keep it undercover.

What is your greatest achievement outside of work?

Having my mum be proud of me.

Art or Skateboarding?

Skateboarding, always. I’ve drawn since I can remember, and love art, but skateboarding has sent me all around the world and when I go abroad I’m always on a mission to skate spots, I never go to galleries or anything.

What irritates you about people?

When they’re from Stockport. ha ha. Just kidding. Shitty drivers in LA usually in White Prius’s.

295805_10150256240961758_1069840_n

Mullet or Mohican?

Mohawk for days. I’ve rocked em in the past. I even got upgraded to first class on a flight cos the bird thought I was the bloke from Travis.

Do you have any questions for me?

Nah, ha ha.

We would like to thank Fos for making some spare time to put up with Stannerz. We hope LA is treating you well dude. Catch Fos killing it below amongst others in Heroin Skateboards ‘Magic Sticky Hands’ which was released in 2006…..

It’s Too Early! Pre Festive Rant!

Monday, November 10th, 2014

I’ve worked in the retail game quite a lot over the years, and I know that your big chains and companies  start preparing for Christmas and the festive period  quite early. In fact in my old work we used to have our ‘Christmas’ meeting at the end of August! Now I’m all for being prepared and that, but that’s not the problem I have with it.

So this my beef, I came into town the other day to buy my mum a card and some flowers for her birthday (basically it was the first week of November). I’ll just go to the card shop in the Arndale I thought ,you know the one – cheap and cheerful. So I walk in and there it is, Christmas this, Christmas that and blaring on the speakers was Slade’s Merry X-mas Everybody – a song you can never get away from this time of year (don’t get me wrong I’m pretty down for Slade) but ironically a song that was written in the SUMMER of 1973! Then that’s always followed by Wizzard I Wish It Could Be Christmas and somewhere along the line Cliff Richard rears his ugly head with Mistletoe and Wine! No need for Cliff at any time of year, but we’ve only just got into November chill out on the Christmas related beats!

Oh but wait, there’s more! Music in shops is one thing but on the same very day they start leaking adverts onto the telly with companies trying to out do each other. You know the ones, that well known drink that can take layers of crap off a one pence coin and make it look brand new or the quite up market department store and its bloody penguin. All night on Facebook getting re-shared and re-shared, I’m sick of that truck already and who in their right mind would give a penguin as a  Christmas present aye?!?!

Is it me just getting bitter as I slowly but surely get older? I mean, for me , December is the Christmas month NOT October or November. It just seems to be in your face earlier and earlier every year. Yes I know its getting to that time but its nearly a whole month and a half away! Christmas adverts would  be banned until the 1st of December if I was in charge!

Good friend of ours Ben Raemers recently turned pro for them so this will be his first section in an international video and I’ve heard it’s powerful. One of the raddest dudes alive and an incredible skater. Good work Ben!! You can also expect sections from other team riders such as Cairo Foster, Caswell Berry, Wieger Van Wageningen, Louie Barletta, Nestor Judkins, Jose Rojo and Jimmy Carlin. The last full length video they released in 2006 called Bag Of Suck was one to remember, and then their promo footage was released in 2012 called Tweak The Beef, Oververt is going to be a full featured video with proper parts so I’m expecting some great things from this one. Here’s Caswell Berry with his section from Bag Of Suck to get you hyped….

MOSHER m/

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

Is a hipster a nowadays mosher? Would you find a ‘moshpit’ at a Coldplay concert? Do they even exist anymore? Is a ‘mosher’ a ‘goth’ in an ’emo’s’ body? I had a ‘Korn’ t-shirt as a kid but had no idea it was a band so was I a mosher in disguise? Is Warhammer their version of  lego? Do moshers have toes, if so I’ve never seen one wearing flip flops?! Do they go to heaven? One thing I know for a fact is that Sexual Stu is one! My name is Nick ‘Stannerz’ Stansfield and I’m a sk8er boi so I must be one as well….. right?! Well according to the top definition on urban dictionary , a mosher is a person who wants to be different from the rest of the world and most importantly not to be a sheep!  We all want to be different right? Is that not one of the things that defines us in our lives? Everybody is an individual, not everyone is the same and doesn’t the scene that we are in celebrate that? So if you think about it, there must be a little bit of mosh in every one of us?!?!

Black Sheep Shop Riot 2014

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Check the clip below to see how the Black Sheep tore apart Prevail Skatehouse in Poole at the Vans Shop Riot 2014. This year we managed to get together enough DOGGERS for a Black Sheep Shop Riot A and B team. As with the previous Shop Riots through the years the skating was top class, everybody was going for it and getting things on lock in the warm up ready for the qualifying heats, the skating seems to be getting better and better each year so well done to all who were on form! After a hectic afternoon we were down to the final three shops, Skate Pharmacy, The Ledge and our Black Sheep A team to battle it out for that lucrative number one spot!  The A team managed to get a well deserved 2nd place, narrowly missing out to Skate Pharmacy to take the top spot! The lads will be taking home £600 between Jiri Bulin, Eddie Belvedere, Rob Smith and Rikk Fields. The B team also smashed it but unfortunately didn’t manage to place in the top 3 but big up to Andy Scott, Gary ‘Woody’ Woodward and Reiss Johnson for there effort.  We already cant wait for the 2015 series where we will be back and keener than ever!

Filmed and edited by our bulk man Isaac Wilkinson!
