‘Grand Prairie’ 50 minutes of Quasi skateboards with Rizzo, Gilbert, JJ and more

Tuesday, April 6th, 2021

Wow! Not even a quasi-wow either: a full on WOW. Quasi skateboards delivered. When’s the last time that you a) were presented with a 50 minute company skate video? And b) were able to watch a 50 minute company video on said company’s YouTube channel (rather than on Thrasher’s)?
Birthed from the ashes of pre rebirth/post Dill and Ave quitting Alien Workshop – Quasi was Mother first.
Shady copyright claims intervened and Mother became Quasi skateboards. Since their inception they’ve done very little wrong to be honest – big up Chad Bowers.
Grand Prairie serves up yet more evidence, along with a smorgasbord of Midwest crust, rather than the 10 LA spots that are on Instagram every 15 seconds.

Dane Barker opens it up with a two-song banger of a full part running everything from massive handrails to flawless ledge tech. Great music, great style, all round greatness from baldy. Contender for one the most inspired bit of BP spot graffiti in this one too ‘Cops are creepy’.

Bald magician and firm favourite Bobby DeKeyzer follows with a truly mind bending section. This dude has so much board control, it’s almost supernatural at times. Brilliant music choice again too. Lots of prime Toronto marble in this: possibly Covid liberated? Either way, this is one of the most watchable but uber-progressive tech parts that you’re going to see any time soon. Absorb the trauma.

Gilbert Crockett, Jake Johnson and Josh Wilson share a part which is short but heavy (like R2D2 full of gravel) and surprisingly free of trouser violations. Tyler Bledsoe delivers Chicago lines, tech combos and an array of different shoe brands which suggest that some footwear bellend ought to hook him up properly really.
Dick Rizzo’s epic contribution follows an introduction based around a young girl screaming ‘Fuck LA’ and a Hasidic scooter rider eating shit at Flushing Meadows. I mean, that definitely beats ‘I’m Dirk Randomberg and you’re watching 411’ doesn’t it? Strong Eastern Exposure 3 vibes here from Quasi skateboards’ bank manager. Inspiring shit and a cellar door count that Bobby Puleo would co-sign. Quasi skateboards‘ newest pro, Justin ‘WuKeeper’ Henry closes off the proper video with an apocalyptic-scored banger of a part filled with lanky power and exemplary heelflip variations. Brilliant.

Following the 20 minute video proper, you’re treated to a further 30 minutes of behind-the-scene japes, alternative angles, slams, comedy and Dick Rizzo bombing the hill outside the house from The Sopranos.
It’s all worth your time – go peep.

No Al Davis though huh?

Gilbert Crockett and Elijah Berle – Vans ‘Alright, Ok’

Tuesday, November 24th, 2020

What a pair! Brought together for Vans under the auspices of contemporary skateboarding’s most celebrated film maker (Greg Hunt of course) – Gilbert Crockett and Elijah Berle smash it here.
If you’re a certain age then the title of the blog post might make you think of Miami Vice.
Or, if you’re a wrong un, maybe Whitney Houston. However, if your skateboarding brain works, then you’ll know we’re on about the lastest Vans release.
(Do we still call then ‘videos’ now everything’s online?)

Gilbert Crockett and Elijah Berle - Vans 'Alright, Ok'

Needless to say, Gilbert Crockett and Elijah Berle come through hard here. It’s difficult not to be fans of either of them and with Greg Hunt manning the editing controls, this is another classic following previous Vans releases such as ‘Spinning Away‘ and ‘Take it Back‘.
Long enough to justify the hype and the online premiere but short enough to fit the brain patterns of 2020. Gilbert’s slimmed down the trousers and upped his manny game even further, taking us on a switchstance dalliance around his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. You have to be impressed by his ability to stay local spot-wise whilst still pushing the boundaries of where his majestic pop and tech abilities can take him. Fellow Quasi head Justin @wukeeper Henry pops up in Gilbert’s part and manhandles street furniture with ease.
Looking forwards to that Quasi video featuring them both slated for release this year.

Gilbert Crockett and Elijah Berle – Vans ‘Alright, Ok’

FA’s Elijah Berle takes the curtains of this two act Greg Hunt masterpiece and fills it with an array of truly fucking mental skating. Pupeki grinds, fakie 5.0 reverts and nosegrind nollie flips on rails plus impossibles a plenty. Say what you like about Elijah’s gear switch ups but there’s absolutely no arguing with the skill.

There’s not much else that needs saying really. Go watch it and consider keg sizing.
One last thing that bears a mention – some of the music has been exclusively scored by ‘Reverend Baron’ AKA Danny Garcia.

Jake Johnson Mixtape

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017

Quasi Skateboards and Jake Johnson are some firm favorites here at the store. Jake mixes a classic style with a modernised bag of tricks, so when we saw that this remix edit had landed on the web from VHYes we were hyped to say the least. Mixing some of his best clips from the GX 1000 edits, Midfield and various other sources, with cameos from fellow Quasi riders Gilbert Crockett and Tyler Bledsoe this is perfect for that pre skate buildup that you need. Can’t wait for Quasi full length!

Quasi Bledsoe “All Clear OK” Part

Tuesday, December 13th, 2016

It’s been about 5 yers or so since Tyler Bledsoe released put out a fully fledged part. That has all changed now though as yesterday via Thrasher he put out a part for Quasi Skateboards called ”All Clear Ok”.  Tyler takes it from the streets of Portland to the schoolyards of Los Angeles. Bledsoe footage is always a treat, but a full part is the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Click play below to uncover the treasure.
