Thunder Trucks x Black Sheep Store – Lucien Costello

So as the story goes we’re celebrating our 10 Years Anniversary here at The Black Sheep Store. Early talks within the walls of Black Sheep ended with the idea of approaching a select few of our favorite brands and seeing if we could work together for some mutual collaborative celebrations. Fast forward to an unexpected visit from Deluxe (self proclaimed) ‘Janitor’ Jim Thiebaud over to Thunder Trucks UK distributor Shiner. Obviously we gratefully took the time and sat down to put the wheels (or trucks as you may) into action. At this point we’re having self doubt, obviously we’re sat mumbling through various life topics till the subject of collaborating is mentioned. Yes the nerves where kicking in and the thoughts of ‘have they even heard of our store in rainy Manchester’ started arising. All the uncalled for worrying over and with the backing of skateboarding brand royalty we’re just straight up hyped to bring this collaboration to fruition! As some will know the guys from Deluxe just do it ‘properly’ and have been bringing skateboarding’s most realist brands and consistently backing the skate stores that bring it to the masses.

Massive, massive thanks to all at Shiner Distribution and the good folk at Deluxe SF for putting this special release together. Collaborations like this for us are straight up heart warming and the global connection and hard work dedication of skateboarders is reinforced yet again.

Now to the edit with newly recruted Thunder flow rider Lucien Costello. It’s been said before but your sure to be seeing more from Lucien (once he figures out how good he is,haha.) Get your viewing pleaseure below and see what he’s capable of filming within a 24 hour time slot. Fine work Lucien and look forward to the ever delayed Black Sheep ‘Welcome Part’!

Again big thanks to Shiner’s social media lord and all round top bloke James ‘Danger’ Kenning for the edit.

France’s Finest Skateboarders

Tuesday, March 15th, 2016

Today I want to to do an article on some French skaters who inspired me since the early days. I used to have some sketchy copies of these VHS videos, all of them in black and white, recorded by older guys from the skatepark. Some of these parts are quite old, others are more about the ” NEW” scene. Check it out, here are some of my all time classics.

Emerica Wild In The Streets Edit

Wednesday, October 7th, 2015

The Wild In The Streets edit is now online!

Sunday 27th September saw the Emerica Wild In The Streets event take place in our fair city of Manchester, if you weren’t there where the hell were you ?!? It went off as we thought it would! Skateboarders from all over the country descended on a surprisingly sunny and quite warm Manchester! First spot of the day had to be Urbis as this was the meeting spot, the megaphone came out and everybody started getting on it. Rob Smith pulled off some massive lip slides on the bottom ledge whilst Sexual Stu delivered a textbook boardslide shove mid block. Harry Lintell was on fine form, delivering some flip back tail variations, switch front heel and nollie backside heel over one of the marble blocks from flat! After a while, well it was only a matter of time, before people started skating the big 3. Not many things have gone down these steps and its easy to see why. Eddie Belvedere smashed a kickflip from the top to the last step, not easy, and then a first try straight nollie to the bottom step! Big shout out to Robert Rooney Woodward who flung himself down the whole thing quite a few times, ollied it with ease and then getting his backside 180 after a few harsh slams!

The next spot on the agenda was Bridgewater rail / stairs. One of the best sights of the weekend was the vast amount of wood and wheels all in unison on the streets en route to the spot! Oh and a quick nosegrind revert was thrown out by Eddie Belvedere himself! Fair play to all involved for being well mannered and polite to the sometimes bewildered public! The Bridgewater spot isn’t to forgiving on the feet but people rose to the occasion and hammers went down. Straight away Harry Lintell did a NBD early grab boardslide down the rail! Curtis Munton pulled off a steezy tre flip over the rail to finish off the session but not before Black Sheep new boy Sam Mason rolled away with a smith grind!

That was it, next spot! Skating down Deansgate heading towards Granada bump, Lewis Threadgold stopped by Tesco for a quick caveman bluntslide on a rail that shouldn’t be skateable, with hardly any run up squashed next to a glass wall! In the end the session was taken to Castlefield arena where Mr Lintell did it again, this time taking a boardslide down the infamous rail – “ Woody’s rail “. Some of the wooden ramps had been brought down from the Pumpcage and wall ride madness proceeded thanks to Rob Smith, Eddie and Lewis!

The day lived up to its name, it deffo was a wild one! Big thanks to all of you who showed up and skated, repping the sheep and spreading the good vibes! Massive thanks to Woody and Claire, Emerica, Dickies and Landscape! Also thanks to CJ for shooting the rad photos throughout the day, you can read the full write up and see more of CJ’s snaps over on the Sidewalk website!

Have a gander at the edit below, and we’ll see you all same time, same place next year!

Seen as a street skating pioneer, San Francisco’s Drake Jones was one of the most iconic skateboarders of the nineties, paving the way for how the modern day scene and street skating culture has come to evolve. Check out his section from Real Skateboards ‘Non Fiction’ from 1997, or even his small part in the Spitfire wheels video – Spitfire from 1993 and you can see that same style of skating street, whether its hitting a set of stairs or doing a technical line on blocks or ledges has surely been influenced by Drake. Although now retired you can still see his legacy within today’s skateboarding. Drake has still been involved with the skateboarding scene, from working at Black Box distribution, interviews in magazines, various web clips and now his latest work with Adidas skateboarding.

Harry Lintell Welcome To The Black Sheep Family

Thursday, September 18th, 2014

So yeah we’re obviously stoked to have Harry come join us at The Black Sheep but this has been a good time in the making. Rewind back a good 6 years (or slightly more, hazy memory killing me) and Lintell was riding for a certain board company we where at the time distributing, we had fun times with plenty UK road trips and even took Harry North of the border and he popped his Scottish visitor cherry. Even way back then Harry was skating with the majority of the OG Black Sheep Family like Eddie, Rob, Scotty etc and with out a current shop sponsor he kind of just fell into the team even back then but we never made anything official. So the years went by and we’ve always supported Harry as much as possible cause we/I firmly believe he should be able to support himself by means of skateboarding and skateboarding alone, god knows he’s pretty shitty at life stuff in general, haha but with serious natural talent the boy from Ashford has now firmly and officially come home and joined The Black Sheep Family.

Big Ups the toothless wonder that is Hairy Lentells.

Tez (and the rest of the fam. x)

Name, age, hang left or right?

Harry Lintell.23.firmly left! haha.

Sponsors?

Black Sheep skate store, Converse, Volcom clothing, Real skateboards, Ace trucks,  Spitfire wheels, MOB grip tape and Piff sticks co.

Your favorite team manager!?

Tez! (as long as I’m above Parrott, haha -Tez,) Chez and Christian.

Why not Kevin Parrott…?! (haha, sorry Kev, my leading question worked a treat!)

I fucking love parrots! Bert and Kevin.

Why you living in London now? Have you turned into a jazzy bummer because of it?

I just wanted to get out of my home town Ashford and I kept going on skate trips and then would always end up back in London so it just made sense! CLAPTON CASTLE represent! and hell no! I’m sick of seeing those jazzy bummers.
Next trip planned to get out of London?

Skate jam in Hull with bro mattock. then San Francisco mission.

How stoked are you to join the Black Sheep?

Over the moon to be joining Black Sheep fam! don know haha.

Looking forward to a Scottish road trip again with Eddie, Rob, Scotty etc..? (oh yeah that’s your notice that we’re going on a Scottish road trip.)

Yeah?! Lets do this!!

Why are you so shit with phones?

I am just rubbish with them and skate with all the time in my pocket haha. even when I do put it in my bag I still end up breaking the screen. haha even the indestructible Nokia 3210, smashed that skating! haha.
Just spoke to your Mum and you should call her now and again. She just wants to know your okay in that there London, haha. Thoughts?

Need to drop her a call and catch up with her really. What up Mom haha.

This Welcome clip took a while yeah? You shouldn’t worry about filming for that small clothing company Volcom when you could be filming more for the mighty Black Sheep! Thoughts?

Been a while coming I guess yeah haha but worth doing it right.

Cheers Harry and obviously stoked your the newest member of the #blacksheepfamily. Any words of wisdom you want to put out to the skate rat masses?

Go out and charge them streets. heavy still! haha have fun always!

Safe Harry. Big love from the fam. Tez.

Some words from the rest of the Black Sheep Family-

Eddie Belvedere- ‘It only makes sense that the best street skater in England rides for the best skate shop in England! Welcome to the Family!’

Rob Smith- ‘I met Harry when he was about 16, I’d never heard of him before but as soon as I seen him skate I knew it wouldn’t be long until everyone knew who he was. We went on our first trip together around that same time, I witnessed some of the most ridiculous skateboarding I’d ever seen… he grinded his first kinked hand rail on that trip, 10 stairs then about 5 feet of flat, to a T juction rail with a drop of about 8 foot off the end. What a joker!’

Harry – ‘Damn that tash!!! Stoked he is a part of the Black Sheep Family.’

Rikk Fields- ‘Raw dogger!  Absolute cannon and a good guy. It makes as much sense as a pie on a barm.’

Massive thanks to Sam Ashley for the use of his photos (portrait,  backside wall ride and backside tail slide.) Also thank you to Graham Tait from North Skateboard Magazine (nose grind pop over.)

Lastly huge thanks to Sean Lomax for the power edit.

Deck Of The Week – Enjoi

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014

Enjoi skateboard company has come a long way from being founded in 2000 by now Chocolate rider Marc Johnson with help from the legend that is Rodney Mullen. With a team consisting of some of the best professionals such as Caswell Berry, Jimmy Carlin, Louie Barletta, Jose rojo, Nester Judkins, Zack Wallin,  Wieger Van Wageningen and Ben Raemers it’s easy to see the excitement when a new drop from Enjoi comes into store! Enjoi have always had some of the funniest board graphics and adverts over the years and this series is no different.  Enjoi are probably the only company that don’t use their team riders doing actual skateboarding tricks in their adverts. Instead they use witty ads that depict skateboarding in a non-skateboarding way. In the most recent board series world famous pieces of art have been given the Enjoi twist! This weeks deck of the week is brought to you from their classic art series! Louie Barletta’s mug shot put onto the body of the Mona Lisa is priceless!

Along with the ‘Mona Louie’ 7.75” deck there is also the ‘Birth Of Nestor’ and ‘Wieger Van David’ both 8” and then Jose Rojo’s pro model the ‘Jose Zapata’ at 8.25”.  These boards and more Enjoi product  are available now online and in store, they also come with free grip when you buy your deck from us! They would also look pretty nice hanging on a wall somewhere in your house, there classic art pieces after all!
