Cottonopolis Video – Manchester Skateboarding

So it’s been a hot minute since we see Sean Lomax going it alone again for another full length production of documenting the Manchester Skateboarding scene. If you seen any of Sean’s past work you’ll know his integrity and down right unique sick way he captures such a vibrant scene. We’ve compiled some of his finest ‘skateboarding’ work for you below but watch and be aware that all this work is made outside of his real job of doing high end TV production filming. The dedication is always a true reflection of Lomax’s craft and the finished product is always something that stands the test of time.

If you not already seen the hype for this premiere on social media then just be sure your in attendance Friday the 1st March (doors open at 19.00.) To give the newly named ‘Cottonopolis Video‘ it’s deservedly premier the Manchester Skateboarding scene will be treated to a real cinema style setting. This is not for those lurkers just after the free beer whilst squinting at a little monitor, this is sure to be a more rowdy yet civilized affair. Entry on the door will be a donation of just £4.00 and we’ve been advised the younger skaters may attend in the company of a responsible adult. Click the link for venue info at NIAMOS Center Hulme.

As mentioned above you’ll get a sample to what Cottonopolis Video production will be like. Get your viewing pleasure on and catch up on a whole host of amazing Manchester Skateboarding. Yes the scene is strong here and the amount of sponsored skaters within such a small proximity lends itself to being the most ever productive skateboarding scene the UK has ever witnessed. Big up to all the featured skaters no matter who you rider for it’s always inspiring to see such a tight crew as it was and how it should be. And obvious props to Sean for his continued documentation of the above mentioned skate scene. Always got big love for the Independent producers, artist, photographers, retailers etc as the true shine always reflects in there chosen art. Anyway… get watching and then get your cruisers decks out and mission on down to Hulme tomorrow for the fun and frolics of what’s sure to be a monumental Manchester Skateboarding event.

Bam is a true part of Element Skateboard’s history. We all know Bam from his TV appearance on Jackass and Viva La Bam when he exposed millions of viewers to skateboarding back in 2000. Now at 38 years young Bam has sorted his life out, stopped terrorizing his dad, lost a bunch of weight and is back shredding.

He’s back from 5 years off of skating following some heavy injuries and personal battles. But like many others, Element are stoked he’s picked a board back up.

And let’s not forget Bam’s involvement with rock band CKY, which if you didn’t know stands for ‘Camp Kill Yourself’.

Daan Van Der Linden and his brother Job

Thursday, January 18th, 2018

Daan Van Der Linden and his brother Job shared skate section.

Daan Van Der Linden and his equally talented brother Job have just released this amazing joint section.

Filled with a wicked mix of tech lines and crusty spots filmed in their native country Holland.

‘Straatparaat x Bawlin part’ shows the raw talent of the dutch brothers and are both super talented on their boards.

Not only do they share a part they also share a stinking green hat, see if you can spot it in the section!

Rumors have been circulating about a new sponsor for big man Daan over the last month.

After many years killing it on the Vans pro team it looks like he might of finally been tempted to jump ship.

Arguably one of the best Skaters in Europe if not the world we can only imagine how much dollar he must now be worth to a company.

After turning pro for Anti Hero last year i wonder if he’ll be joining his fellow team mate Grant Taylor on even more trips and tours around the world with his new sponsor?

Check some more of the crazy magic from Daan in this ‘Over Stokes’ clip taken from his Volcom section that came out a couple of years ago, he truly is a wizard on a Skateboard!

Apparently as part of his new sponsorship deal he also requested that his brother Job be hooked up on the same company! Must be good to be Daans brother right now!

Can anyone guess where his magical feet might be taking him then in the future? Stay tuned for the big announcement coming soon!

A big favorite of everyone at the Black Sheep we’re looking forward to seeing what crazy footage he drops in 2018.

Swoosh! In a bit pal. x

Carve Wicked pro Stephen Fox (aka SOX ) has been on one recently, jet setting to skate locations across the globe with on point lensman Jack “Candyman” Thompson on hand to capture it all. SOX mooched everywhere from Marseilles to Vietnam and all within a month, losing VISA’s and encountering the…well lets just say some pretty rough bowl movement. After all that though he’s headed back home with four minutes of sick footage to celebrate his debut pro part and his board on Carve Wicked. Ave it Steven Fox!

Vans Park Series Malmo 2017

Thursday, June 1st, 2017

vans-park-series-malmo-sweden-2017

So the casual question was put out to us at the Black Sheep Family, “Do you fancy going to the Vans Park Series in Malmo Sweden this year…?” so of course it took all of a split second to respond and the next thing we know flight reservations where emailed followed by a loose schedule for our time in sunny Sweden (*please note we got very, very lucky with the Swedish weather as normally it’s pretty much like Manchester just with colder winters!)

The dates where set for the 2017 Vans Park Series in Malmo Sweden and the next thing you know we where coming into land via Copenhagen with a short trip over the infamous Øresund Bridge (go watch the Swedish TV series ‘The Bridge’ if you haven’t already!) For those planning a skate mission to Sweden via the U.K you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know your literally 20 minutes train journey away from the airport to some of Malmo’s finest street spots and ridiculously amazing concrete skate parks.  So of course the first port of call stepping of the train we headed straight down to the Vans park located in Kroksback which is slightly out of the main city center of Malmo. The first sight of the park seriously leaves you questioning yourself, we’ve all seen footage/photos/instagram from the park but to see it in the flesh gives you a whole lot more admiration for any skater stepping up to ride the luscious concrete waves it has to offer.

Of course it was like the who’s who from the skateboard world looking around the deck with skaters literally from all over the World in attendance. And of course Black Sheep Family lifer Andy Scott is now currently classed as a local with his recent move East so it was an added treat to catch up with old ‘In a minute Mr Scott!’

The first day down at Hyllie Kroksback skate-park was a little teaser on how this competition may go over the following two days,  you could see a load of the Pro’s and Am’s just getting used to the place but slowly finding the groove as runs got longer and more technical in the process. Again I was still blown away of how gnarly the park is especially after rushing in for a quick roll around and quickly becoming out of my depth whilst hurtling towards the deep end bowled out section. So it was back to the shade with some powerful coffee to warn off the days early start, then sit back and relax to watch the European’s first day qualifiers that soon escalated from the moments before mellow session!

Time was ticking and the first day skate was over with the talk of the town being a free Corona beer party down the local Street Lab skate shop in central Malmo where the good crew was due to celebrate their shop extension in the shape of a new Vans store in store. Rad to see the Lovenskate guys in attendance doing some one off board printing collaborating both the Vans logo and the locally recognized Street Lab branding.  Massive thanks to the crew in store for the warm welcome and even use of the WiFi to do the obligatory FaceTime call home.

Second day came round quick sharp after our first luxury night in the hotel (not trying to show off but we’re just not used to such surroundings!) and it was the five minute skate in the baking sunshine down towards the epic park and another eye opener walking in to see Ishod Wair casually destroying every piece of transition in his path. Seats where taken and it was time to sit back and watch the days silly skating unfold with some serious names now in attendance including Raven Tershey, Oskar Rozenberg Hallberg, Pedro Barros, Rune Glifberg, Sam Beckett, Alex Sorgente (last years overall Vans Park Series winner) plus many more global rippers.

After the initial day of qualifiers and general mental skating it was looking good for the following day semi’s and then monstrous finals on what was to be another scorching day of sunshine. You probably caught the live screening from the last day but go remind yourselves below with some official Vans Park Series footage capturing all the highlights from all of the above!

Carlos Ribeiro – It Must Be Nice

Monday, March 13th, 2017

It must be nice…well it must be if you were just as good at skating like Carlos Ribeiro. Less than a month after Thrasher Magazine broadcast his brand new part for Primitive Skateboards the Brazilian wizard is back and yet again in mesmerizing style leaving us open mouthed in awe at his expertise on a board. This new edit sees him cruising around the Berrics banging out lines and combos that could be seen in a video game like it’s no big deal. It seems mad to think after seeing his natural ability, before P-Rod decided to hook him up he was floating around sponsorship limbo with only a Plan B flow deal to his name. Now at 25, with a Nike SB contract, a pro board on one of the biggest brands around at the moment, things are looking very bright for Carlos and he doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon. Hit that play button to see some naturally gifted precision.

Everybody’s favorite food related skateboards – also know as Pizza Skateboards are back with a new visual treat called ‘Prepare The Video’. The Pizza crew go way beyond the call of duty in this one, a killer edit with raw skating on all those superb Spanish spots. New Balance Numeric: Sankhara

Thursday, March 9th, 2017

New Balance Numeric’s latest trip to Asia to promote the Brighton 345 shoe has been documented in their newest edit titled Sankhara. The trip stretched across several various countries and the locals ranged from ancient antiquity to modern metropolis. When the team arrived in a tsunami it was clear that this trip was going to be quite an adventure. After the guys learned to deal with different levels of hospitality, they knew it was going to turn out to be one wild ride. Even with its wildly changing weather and attitudes towards skateboarding, Asia offers skaters a fine balance – as long as you’re open to something new. Click play below to see Axel Cruysberghs, Anthony Schultz, Marius Syvanen, Marquise Henry and Tom Karangelov make their way through Asia hitting up some amazing spots in Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
