Free Dome Skateboards – Geoff Rowley

So this one’s out the bag now and we’re hyped to see Free Dome Skateboards by the Liverpool legend Geoff Rowley. Set to release Worldwide by a hand selected 26 skate shops all with very limited stock. The first produced hand screened (see video below!) decks are Geoff’s first pro board since his long term separation from his previous sponsor. You know with anything Geoff Rowley turns his hand to it’s done with the upmost care and attention to detail. With a few years now of riding blank decks with just his current sponsors stickers Vans, Independent Trucks and Spitfire Wheels it’s great to see what the man himself has been working up to. If you follow Geoff Rowley on Instagram you’ll be aware of his fondness for all things skateboard related. He’s known for sourcing out his all time favorites Independent Stage 7’s trucks from anywhere and everywhere. With this said you know Geoff was going to come correct when it came to producing his own skateboards.

Free Dome Skateboards got it’s first mention just a couple of weeks back in the internet world. With a more than welcoming positive reaction and such limited supply we’re expecting these to disappear rather quickly. The first available Pro board from Geoff is available in three wood stain colors and they have all been screen printed in California, USA. The shape is your classic Popsicle with a medium concave. All boards also produced by the legendary Schmitt Stix Factory headed up by 80’s innovator deck maker connoisseur Paul Schmitt.

We seriously look forward to what comes next from Free Dome Skateboards. As of right now it’s all a little mysterious but with the known rumors of a new Vans video part from Geoff Rowley you know he’s always got something brewing. Let the slap forum talks commence as to who’ll be on the team, will the name be changed and just general lurkers chatting madness.

Geoff Rowley Pro Model, 8.375″ Width x 31.75″ Length x 14″ Wheelbase, Custom shape and hand screen printed in California, U.S.A.

Legendary skater Tony Trujillo’s new pro shoe is coming into the shop very soon! The universal release date for the TNT Advance Prototype is 14th July. We are very excited to be unleashing these bad boys. Especially as we have got our hands on colorways that only a limited number of skate shops in the UK will be stocking.

This old school hero needs no introduction really. But just to get you up to speed, the TNT Advance Prototype is the newest pro shoe from Tony Trujillo. Tony first popped up in 411 VHS tapes back in the 1990s and has been an absolute powerhouse in the world of skateboarding ever since. He’s been in it for the long haul with both AntiHero and Vans. Bringing out countless parts over the years, and of course earning himself 2002’s Skater of the Year. We have attached a few famous edits from the man himself down below.

Now, a bit about the TNT Advanced Prototype Skate Shoe:

We have got the shoes in 4 colorways which you can see in the photos above. The TNT’s features a breathable mesh panel for all you sweaty stinking skaters out there. As well as a duracap toe wrap, rubber ollie patch and toe guard for a stronger, longer lasting structure. And of course the classic UltraCush LITE 3D footbed and WaffleCup sole.

For anyone who remembers the TNT SG skate shoe, the TNT Advanced Prototype is like a proper upgraded version of the TNT SG. We expect these to sell rapidly once we hit the release day so if you want them, stay tuned.

The TNT Advanced Prototype will release on 14th July 2018, you’ll be able to shop for them here: https://www.blacksheepstore.co.uk/vans.html

Vans Park Series Malmo 2017

So the casual question was put out to us at the Black Sheep Family, “Do you fancy going to the Vans Park Series in Malmo Sweden this year…?” so of course it took all of a split second to respond and the next thing we know flight reservations where emailed followed by a loose schedule for our time in sunny Sweden (*please note we got very, very lucky with the Swedish weather as normally it’s pretty much like Manchester just with colder winters!)

The dates where set for the 2017 Vans Park Series in Malmo Sweden and the next thing you know we where coming into land via Copenhagen with a short trip over the infamous Øresund Bridge (go watch the Swedish TV series ‘The Bridge’ if you haven’t already!) For those planning a skate mission to Sweden via the U.K you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know your literally 20 minutes train journey away from the airport to some of Malmo’s finest street spots and ridiculously amazing concrete skate parks.  So of course the first port of call stepping of the train we headed straight down to the Vans park located in Kroksback which is slightly out of the main city center of Malmo. The first sight of the park seriously leaves you questioning yourself, we’ve all seen footage/photos/instagram from the park but to see it in the flesh gives you a whole lot more admiration for any skater stepping up to ride the luscious concrete waves it has to offer.

Of course it was like the who’s who from the skateboard world looking around the deck with skaters literally from all over the World in attendance. And of course Black Sheep Family lifer Andy Scott is now currently classed as a local with his recent move East so it was an added treat to catch up with old ‘In a minute Mr Scott!’

The first day down at Hyllie Kroksback skate-park was a little teaser on how this competition may go over the following two days,  you could see a load of the Pro’s and Am’s just getting used to the place but slowly finding the groove as runs got longer and more technical in the process. Again I was still blown away of how gnarly the park is especially after rushing in for a quick roll around and quickly becoming out of my depth whilst hurtling towards the deep end bowled out section. So it was back to the shade with some powerful coffee to warn off the days early start, then sit back and relax to watch the European’s first day qualifiers that soon escalated from the moments before mellow session!

Time was ticking and the first day skate was over with the talk of the town being a free Corona beer party down the local Street Lab skate shop in central Malmo where the good crew was due to celebrate their shop extension in the shape of a new Vans store in store. Rad to see the Lovenskate guys in attendance doing some one off board printing collaborating both the Vans logo and the locally recognized Street Lab branding.  Massive thanks to the crew in store for the warm welcome and even use of the WiFi to do the obligatory FaceTime call home.

Second day came round quick sharp after our first luxury night in the hotel (not trying to show off but we’re just not used to such surroundings!) and it was the five minute skate in the baking sunshine down towards the epic park and another eye opener walking in to see Ishod Wair casually destroying every piece of transition in his path. Seats where taken and it was time to sit back and watch the days silly skating unfold with some serious names now in attendance including Raven Tershey, Oskar Rozenberg Hallberg, Pedro Barros, Rune Glifberg, Sam Beckett, Alex Sorgente (last years overall Vans Park Series winner) plus many more global rippers.

After the initial day of qualifiers and general mental skating it was looking good for the following day semi’s and then monstrous finals on what was to be another scorching day of sunshine. You probably caught the live screening from the last day but go remind yourselves below with some official Vans Park Series footage capturing all the highlights from all of the above!

So a few months back now we we’re fortunate enough to get a call from the good folk at Vans and got asked if we wanted to head down and hang out with Geoff Rowley and basically have a session followed by pizza’s and beers. Obviously not ones to turn down such an opportunity a few of the Black Sheep Family members boosted down to the big smoke on the old Virgin Pendolino and proceeded to have a grand old time.

With Black Sheep Family staff member and in house filmer Phil Harvey in tow the riders seized the opportunity to bang out the edit your about to watch below. For those who’ve never ventured into the tunnels that makes up the House Of Vans London your in for a pretty magical treat, not only is there the concrete skate park spread over three rooms they also house a bespoke night club, one amazing restaurant, cinema plus a private luxury pad style chill room complete with leather sofas, big screens and mini bar. We’ve had a few visits now down to this little piece of London heaven and obviously always get a warm welcome from O.G Black Sheep team rider Rob Smith who heads up all the skate-park happenings along with getting involved on the music event side as well.

As ever, massive thanks to the good folks at Vans for the invite and good times. Always a pleasure to be working with a brand that backs skateboarding to the fullest.

Vans Shop Riot Live Stream 2014

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

Its that time again! The Vans Shop Riot finals are upon us and you can watch all the action unfold via our live stream on our Black Sheep blog. Independent shops and their teams from all over Europe have been battling it out for a place in the finals in Aalast, Belgium this weekend ( 11 – 12 October ).  This year saw the Northen leg take place at Ramp1 in Warrington where our Black Sheep team and defending champions placed themselves in a respectable third.  The Southern leg was held at Prevail Skatehouse in Poole, unfortunately our lads were just pipped to the post of top spot but still finished in a well deserved second place.  That means there is no Black Sheep entry in the final for a change! We could win it every year but were just not that selfish! A new team will be crowned champions by Sunday evening, but until then lets look back at last years final!

Vans Syndicate Neil Blender

Monday, March 10th, 2014

It’s a surprise this blog post ever made it to the publish button due to the time I could spend trawling the web reminiscing at one of the most iconic skaters in the whole of skateboarding’s history. Yes I know, very strong opening statement but Neil Blender is what most see as the very essence of skateboarding, simply put he’s just one of them guys that stands completely alone and probably invented the phrase “Marching to the beat of a different drummer.”

So the reason/excuse for this post is the good folk at Vans Syndicate have come through with this powerful collaboration from the man himself. First up is the Authentic Pro “S” in the Washed out Grey featuring Blender artwork around the out sole along with the Ultracush HD cushioning we’ve come to expect from the Syndicate range. These are obviously a take on the original and probably most recognizable Vans shoes but with that added extra comfort and higher grade materials used across the whole makeup. Second up is the skaters favorite Chukka Low WC “S” in Suede, and washed canvas upper which incorporates the Vans patented Wafflecup sole unit to give this normally Vulcanized shoe a completely different feel and more supported fit.

We’re being told the UK release will be early March but you can keep checking back to Vans Syndicate on our website or alternatively give us a follow on our Instagram for daily updates.

So back to the self indulgent part of this post, scan below and get all nostalgic with the true legend that is Neil Blender.
