Tony Hawk discussing legendary skate spots and ripping as usual

Wednesday, August 5th, 2020

If you’re too cool to openly admit that big Tone is dope then you’re dead to us.
The video above featuring Tony Hawk discussing legendary skate spots just cements it, again.
Mainstream coverage of skateboard culture doesn’t have the best track record if we’re honest. From 7-Sports Wigan contest coverage back in the 80’s (complete with Bill Danforth pissed up on the mic) to New York Times coverage of the rise of Tyshawn Jones, they just seem to always make a bollocks of it. I mean in their defense, that might be just because skateboarders are notoriously picky but, you all know what we mean.

Anyway, with that said, and very probably due in part to Tony Hawk‘s involvement, we’ll put our hands up and admit that this Vox piece, which sees Tony Hawk discussing legendary skate spots alongside skateboarding’s premier academic Iain Borden, is definitely worth a watch.
From Mount Baldy to Natas Kaupas’ infamous hydrant, this is an in-depth look at many of America’s (primarily at least) most iconic spots accompanied with discussion by Tone and Iain and a brace of archive footage. You’ll love this whether you’re a 15 year old stair hero or an arthritic 50 year old struggling to force your beer gut up a kerb.
As an additional (and customary) treat – you’ll find links to various other bits of documentary coverage of skate culture (both good and awful) littered through this text – take your fingers for a wander and scoff at Danforth’s not-so-subtle digs at Sean Goff nearly 30 years ago.

If you enjoyed the above, get your eyeballs around some more Tony Hawk ripping courtesy of the latest Homies clip featuring Independent Trucks riders big Tone, Omar Hassan and various others skating tons of classic spots in Montreal, Canada.

Now go enjoy the sun whilst it’s here and don’t pay any attention to all this foolish talk of a skateboard hardware drought – we’re stocked to the gills like always.

Rikk Fields New Witchcraft Part

Thursday, February 25th, 2016

Now this is what I’m talking about! Our shop rider Rikk Fields has just released a part for Witchcraft Hardware and it’s a bloody cracker. Proper skateboarding at its finest, good on you Rikk lad, stoked! Contains everything you need to get hyped from gnarly street stunts, handrails, some ledge trickery and even some transition. For some reason I always seem to associate Rikk with mainly transition skating although with this part it seems to be more street than anything. Anyway lets be honest, he can do it all. An all around ripper, pie eater, ale drinker, this section is power. It also couldn’t have come out at a better time as we have just had a restock on Witchcraft Hardware product. So do consider these guys when purchasing your next board. Hit the link to see what’s available… http://www.blacksheepstore.co.uk/witchcraft-skateboards.html

Keep up with Rikk Fields and Witchcraft on the old Instagram to make sure you never miss a moment of madness.

Seb Batty Welcome To The Black Sheep

Tuesday, November 11th, 2014

This may not be Manchester’s best kept secret but what are you going to do when Seb’s out skating every single day in and around the city rocking Black Sheep this and that. Also we’ve held back this edit thinking it’d be dope to do a little interview to introduce Seb properly as he’s really a new comer to our UK shores but with the best intention and fellow Wigan pie rat Rikk Fields supposedly conducting said interview things just went adrift, or probably more appropriately ‘Up In Smoke!’

So it’s down to me to give you some what of a little introduction to the latest member of The Black Sheep Family – Seb Batty ! Basically he’s a full on 110% skate rat, out on his board till all hours of the night every single day and obviously when you’ve got the addiction that bad it’s going to come across in your skating as it does all so true with Seb. If your one of the few who’s managed to witness Seb cruising down the cage then you’ll know his consistency and style dripping trick bag can only be attained with such commitment. When not skating you’ll probably find him hot boxing the hell out of his car or just hanging out at the store trying to be understood with his hella mixed up accent (this is due to living all over the world and not cause of the fact he resides in Wigan.)

In short we’re stoked to have Seb come ride with us and I know he’d like to thank Dwindle Distribution UK for hooking up the Enjoi flow status.

More to come from this one…… if he don’t disappear back to Honk Kong (and who could blame him, you’ve all seen their spots right!)

Black Sheep Store Presents Rikk Fields ‘Too Right’ Section

Monday, June 2nd, 2014

Rick Fields is a man on a mission at the moment!

If you didn’t manage to see Witchcraft Hardware’s Rikk’s  section when Sidewalk Magazine released it in connection to his first light in issue 208 then you now have another opportunity to watch it. Rikk has been smashing it for years. I remember skating with him when we were younger at the infamous Bolton Bones skatepark where he learnt much of his trade! After seemingly disappearing from the skateboard world for a little while, exploring the misadventures of the Wigan music and party scene he’s been back and killing it harder than ever! Even in his period of absence, he could still be spotted around Wigan, grabbing other peoples boards and still being able to produce some of the maddest stuff on a board I’ve seen!  Hit the play button above to see Wigan’s top ‘dogger’ skating a huge variety of our not so perfect Northwestern terrain. Handrails, ledges and cobbled quarters, Rikk Fields can do it all, with a style and aggression that only he can deliver! More sections dropping this week too so keep yours eyes on the prize and don’t miss out on the Black Sheeps ‘Too Right’ video dropping section by section!
